PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 3, 2024

TOWN OF SUMMERFIELD DE-ANNEXATION UPDATE
The Town Council of Summerfield acknowledges the recent decision by the General Assembly to pass a bill resulting in the de-annexation of nearly 1,000 acres of our town’s land. This decision, primarily benefiting a single developer, has been made despite the Council’s efforts to negotiate terms that would serve the best interests of the entire community and lobby the General Assembly against such drastic action.

This de-annexation has been a battle for a long time and the friction with this specific developer even longer. We’re disappointed and disheartened by this government overreach. We wish to assure the residents of Summerfield that the Council is taking this matter seriously and is actively exploring all available avenues to address the repercussions of this de-annexation. Our priority remains the well-being and prosperity of our town and its people.

The Council would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who have and continue to spend countless hours supporting and rebuilding this beautiful, spirited community. Your dedication and hard work are the backbone of Summerfield's resilience. United, we will ensure that Summerfield remains "Respectful of the Past and Focused on the Future."

To all the good people in Summerfield, thank you for allowing me to serve as your town manager for the last 12 years. I started in "first grade" here and today I'm either graduating Town Hall High or I've flunked out, depending on your view. Nevertheless, I'm leaving halls and classrooms for an unknown adventure.

I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and managed a lot. I experienced remarkable classmates/coworkers here, supportive teachers/Council members, and some downright bullies, which will always be part of growth. But oh the friends I've made.

Be good to each other, Summerfield. Life is short and there's always more room for kindness, grace, and putting people before things. —Scott

Welcome to Summerfield Sign

Council voted for the Summerfield Town sign prior to Founders’ Day. We appreciate all who took the time to send in artwork!

The winner is… 🥇 Mrs. Priscilla Olinick

A winning gift basket, sponsored by Mrs. Jessica Haverland, Tyler Redhead & McAlister Real Estate, was awarded to Mrs. Olinick after Founders’ Day. Mrs. Olinick has committed to helping further with detailed scaled renderings, lighting, and assistance in procuring materials needed to see the project through completion. (Notice: town procedures will have to be followed for each step.)

Again, many thanks to those who participated!

4-9-24 Town Council Meeting

04/08/2024

The Town of Summerfield is delighted to announce the appointment of James Hoffman as its new Town Attorney. The unanimous decision was made by the council during a special called meeting on March 22, 2024. With impressive legal experience, Hoffman brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our community.

Hoffman is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He holds a law degree from the College of William & Mary Law School, and he went on to practice law in private law firms and as corporate counsel. Hoffman has served as a city attorney both in Northern Virginia and in North Carolina, including Greensboro.

Hoffman is the Founder of American Heroes for North Carolina, a non-profit organization to engage veteran leadership in the community, which now has merged with Veterans Bridge Home (VBH), where he continues to serve as an executive and as a member of the VBH Triad Regional Board of Governors. Hoffman’s commitment to the local community is evident through his active participation and leadership on numerous local boards, such as the Center for Creative Leadership, Greensboro Urban Ministry, Guilford Child Development, Inc., and Ready for School, Ready for Life. We are confident that his knowledge, experience, and dedication will greatly benefit Summerfield, and we look forward to working with him in his new role as Summerfield’s Town Attorney.
