Foothills of the Himalayas
12-days tour of Foothills of Himalayas tour starts from New Delhi. Visit the famous heritage monuments in Delhi along with old Delhi market. Head towards Shimla by Kalka to Shimla heritage toy train. One of India's famous mountain narrow gauge railways, this is a world heritage site. Next destination is Garli. As you wander through the narrow streets of Garli Paragpur, a visit to one of the silversmiths in the village market makes for a fascinating experience. After Garli move towards Mcleodganj, which is home to the Tibetan Government in Exile. The town is home to many Buddhist monasteries. Travel towards Amritsar which is famous for the Golden Temple and evening ceremony at India-Pakistan border.

Day 1 | Arrive in New Delhi
After arriving in New Delhi, one of our staff members will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel, where we'll brief you on the itinerary for the next few days.
Day 2 | New Delhi
Visit Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Himayun’s tomb, Lotus temple, India Gate and Chandni Chowk. Enjoy the cycle rickshaw ride and old Delhi street food tour.
Day 3 | New Delhi – Kalka [By road in 5 hours]
Today we drive to Kalka. Stop at Ambala for lunch and visit local market of Ambala. Night stay in Kalka.
Day 4 | Kalka – Shimla [By toy train in 5 hours]
Today board the toy train from Kalka to Shimla. This narrow gauge railway is one of the world's most famous train journeys, now a World Heritage Site, and is a highlight of the tour.
Day 5 | Shimla
Today go on a walking tour of Shimla, visiting its main attractions such as the Vice Regal Lodge, the Christ Church, the Gaeity Theatre and Shimla's most famous temple, dedicated to the monkey god Hanuman.
Day 6 | Shimla – Garli / Paragpur [By road in 6 hours]
Head towards Garli, a heritage village in the Kangra Valley which displays a huge range of colonial and regional architectural styles in its mansions, temples and sarais.
Day 7 | Garli / Paragpur – Masroor Rock cut temples – Kangra – Mcleodganj [By road in 2 hours]
Today visit the Masroor rock cut temples and Kangra Fort. Later drive towards Mcleodganj. t's a lovely small place to walk around.
Day 8 | Mcleodganj
Today visit the the Dalai Lama temple, local market and a short trek to waterfall. In the evening enjoy delicious Tibetan cuisines in a local restaurant.
Day 9 | Mcleodganj – Amritsar [By road in 4 hours]
To drive towards Amritsar. In the evening visit the Golden temple.
Day 10 | Amritsar
Visit Golden Temple, Old Heritage market, partition museum and India-Pakistan border.
Day 11 | Amritsar – Delhi [By Flight]
Today board the flight to Delhi. In the evening heritage tour of Delhi.
Day 12| Departure from Delhi
According to your flight timings, we transfer you to airport.

Behind on our posting. Updates: James got the India belly sickness - fully recovered. I’m moving onto to our adventures now and will catch you up on our last 5 days in India between.
We entered Manila Philippines on February 26 and stayed in Malate in a new hotel. It was within walking distance of anything we needed. While James recovered, I walked to the mall with my backpack and purchased groceries, medications and miscellaneous things needed. Security is so amazing, each store has a security guard that checks all bags, some have metal detectors and they are constantly announcing reminders of how to prevent theft.
On the 28th we went to the Manila American Cemetary to see James uncles market for missing at sea during WWII. It was a moving moment to see all the missing in action and the steps being taken to identify the remains through DNA testing . Over all a much needed, rest time.

If you ever find yourself in Harare, Zimbabwe I highly recommend Gletwyn Boutique Guesthouse ! Although 30 minutes from the airport, the quiet countryside is well worth the drive.
Upon arrival they meet you and take your luggage while Irene gets your paperwork in order. You wait in a lovely sitting area which is more like a living room.
Being escorted to a lovely room with a large balcony overlooking a farm field. There is a chef on staff, Timothy, that prepares gourmet meals as required and any drink you request. The pool is a refreshing afternoon break from the heat!
Cuthbert sees to the every day operations and promotions. I can’t say enough about this lovely, quiet retreat.
Note: 1) This place is operated on solar and generator only
2) Air conditioning doesn’t operate, however the cool breeze in the evening keeps the rooms chilled
3) transportation is helpful, however they can arrange rides (at a cost) for you!
4) You can’t beat the price!!

January 30 - Mossel Bay South Africa. Group of 20 went on a garden route tour through the mountains. The garden route has the most fertile lands and you pass all types of farming. Our first destination was Canga Caves with beautiful rock formations. Oldest discovered cave and 3rd most visited in Africa.
Then we headed out to Karasu Winery where we enjoyed wine tasting and an epicurean meal! Great friends, views and wine induced karaoke on the way home (back to our ship)

Day 01 | 09 Feb | Arrive in Varanasi [By Flight at 3 PM]
Arrive in Varanasi. Pick up from the airport by our representative and transfer to the hotel. Check in at the hotel. In the evening, get ready to experience one of the most memorable moments of your life, as you will be taken to River Ganges. Enjoy Ganga Aarti. Get a glimpse of the spiritualism at the Ganga Ghats (river front). Night stay at Hotel in Varanasi.

Day 02 | 10 Feb | Varanasi
After breakfast proceed for a fabulous city tour is arranged covering the most religious Vishwanath temple, Annapurna Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple , the Bharat Mata temple, SankatMochan(Hanuman temple) , ManasMandir, BHU etc.
Later an excursion to Sarnath. Sarnath is the place where Buddha delivered his first sermon to his disciples. The attractions at Sarnath are the Buddha temples, the Dhamekha stupa, Chaukhandi stupa and the archaeological museum.Leisure time in evening to enjoy local market in Varanasi. Night stay in Varanasi.


Day 03 | 11 Feb | Varanasi – Delhi [By Flight Dep. 15:55 Arr. 17:30]
Early morning, we will be taken for a boat ride on the Ganges. It is a mystical and spiritual experience as you watch people offering water to the Sun God and devotees taking holy dip in the Ganges. We will visit all the famous ghats of Varanasi via boat. Come back to hotel for breakfast.
In the noon, drop at Varanasi airport to board the flight to Delhi. Arrive in Delhi and pick up from the airport by our representative. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. Night stay in Delhi.

Day 04 | 12 Feb | Delhi
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing of Delhi. Places to visit in Delhi are Red Fort, Jama Mosque and Chandni chowk. Later visit Rajghat, India Gate, President & Parliament Houses, Himayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar and Akshardham temple etc. Stay overnight in Delhi.

Day 05 | 13 Feb | Delhi – Agra [By road 200 Kms in 3 hours]
After breakfast drive to Agra. Arrive Agra and check in at the hotel.
Later visit the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Taj Mahal is everything that has been said about it and more. Taking 22 years and 20,000 men to build, the white marble was quarried 200 miles away and was transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, in mid17th century, the Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world. Though the Taj appears to be amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is really outstanding.
Evening will be free for shopping in Agra. Stay overnight at Agra.

Day 06 | 14 Feb | Agra – Fatehpur Sikri – Chand Baori – Ranthambore [By road 6-7 hours]
After breakfast drive to Ranthambore via Fatehpur Sikri. The magnificent fortified ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 as his capital and abandoned 15 years later, allegedly due to a severe scarcity of water.
Later stop at Chand Baoli. Most scenic step-well in Rajasthan.
After sightseeing drive towards Ranthambore. Arrive in Ranthambore and check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at Ranthambore.

Day 07 | 15 Feb | Ranthambore
Today take the morning Safari at Ranthambore. There will be many opportunities to take pictures of animals and birds. Wake up early for your first safari, and return to the hotel for lunch. Later proceed for an afternoon Safari in Ranthambore. Spend the night at your hotel in Ranthambore.


Day 08 | 16 Feb | Ranthambore – Jhalana - Jaipur [By road 4 hours drive]
After early breakfast drive to Jaipur via Jhalana. In the afternoon proceed for Jungle safari in Jhalana tiger reserve. Later check in at a hotel in Jaipur. Stay overnight in Jaipur.

Day 09 | 17 Feb | Jaipur
After early breakfast, visit the ancient Rajput capital of Amber, 11 km from the city. Visit the Amer Fort. Enjoy the elephant ride at Amer fort. Afternoon, proceed for half day tour of the city visiting the Maharaja’s City Palace and the Jantar Mantar Observatory. Jaipur’s walled City Palace (1732 AD) occupies one-seventh of the city’s area. Visit to the Hawa mahal and pick city market. Overnight stay at Jaipur.


Day 10 | 18 Feb | Jaipur – Pushkar [By Road in 3 hours]
After breakfast leave for your next destination Pushkar. Pushkar is a holy town in Rajasthan which is known to house some legendary temples and century’s old lake. It is a famous pilgrimage site because it has the well-known Brahma temple where people visit from all over. Apart from this temple, Pushkar is known to have a number of other temples which are architecturally beautiful. On reaching Pushkar, check-in to the hotel. In the evening meet your tour guide and do the walking tour in Pushkar. Stay overnight in Pushkar.

Day 11 | 19 Feb | Pushkar – Jodhpur [By road in 5 hours]
After breakfast, checkout from hotel and later proceed to Jodhpur. On arrival at Jodhpur, check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.


Day 12 | 20 Feb | Jodhpur
After breakfast visit to the Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Clock Tower, Jaalra stepwell and Umaid Bhawan Museum. In the evening proceed for an excursion tour of Bishnoi villages in Jodhpur. No trip in Rajasthan is completed without a visit to the Bishnoi Villages, such as Guda Bishnoiyan, Kakani and Khejarli. Khejarli is the village that a lot of men and women sacrificed their lives to protect the trees. Witness the beautiful nature and wildlife while experiencing the lifestyle of the locals. Stay overnight at Johdpur.

Day 13 | 21 Feb | Jodhpur – Jaisalmer [By road in 6 hours]
Post breakfast, drive to the Golden city of Jaisalmer. On arrival check-in to your hotel. Later visit the Gadisar lake by the evening. Overnight stay at hotel in Jaisalmer.

Day 14 | 22 Feb | Jaisalmer
Today full day to enjoy the desert festival in Jaisalmer. Night stay in Jaisalmer.

Day 15 | 23 Feb | Jaisalmer
After breakfast proceed for city sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer. Visit the Jaisalmer Fort which is made by unique Golden Lime stone, hence also known as Golden Fort (Sonar Quila). Next visit Patwon-ki-haveli, Nathmal-ki-haveli. Salim singh-ki-Haveli. People still live in these ancient buildings dating from 12th to 15th century. Every house has exquisite carvings. Post lunch enjoy at the desert festival in Jaisalmer. Night stay in Jaisalmer hotel.


Day 16 | 24 Feb | Jaisalmer Sand Dunes
To we drive towards Sand Dunes. (Venue of last day of festival is in the sand dunes) In the evening, proceed for camel ride on Sam Sand Dunes. Take the camel safari and immerse in the spirit of Rajasthan all through the night by staying in the mud-huts, meeting warm and rustic people of Rajasthan and have a touch of their culture with their lively music, folk dance, singing performances and other cultural programs. Overnight stay at Jaisalmer camp at sand dunes.

Day 17 | 25 Feb | Departure from Jaisalmer
According to the flight timings drop at the airport to board the flight to DELHI/MUMBAI/KOLKATA to further board the connecting flight onward destination.
