There's a reason why sea turtle shells are coloured the way they are. Countershading camouflages the turtles from potential predators. When viewed from above, the turtle’s dark back blends in with the ocean depths. From below, the lighter ventral side blends in with the brighter sea surface.

Dusk above the calmness of Chileno Bay at the beautiful . This property is right along a protected cove on one of Los Cabos most swimmable bays. The warm air, cascading pools, and incredible food made for a beautiful stay. I’ve stayed at quite a few Auberge Resorts properties and love how the each have such unique architecture and character. As humans, we're quick to compare and imitate those we deem to be successful. There's countless guides to the "rights" and "wrongs" of art/business, but I believe we often make it much more complex than it needs to be.

Here's a few tips that have helped me immensely:

1.  Work hard and never stop learning - Get to the level where you're constantly proud of the work you put out...then keep working on it. No one is going to believe in your work if you don't. Trust the hours and passion you put into each piece you create.

2. Relationships are crucial - Despite being a sometimes introverted profession, your interactions with peers and clients are often what gets you the job. Be fun to be around, enjoyable to work with, and contribute to a positive environment. Win as a TEAM.

3. You need more than talent - Doubling down on the top two tips, talent alone won't always get you the job. There are tons of incredible artists, so focus on the other variables that could set you apart. You have a story to tell, don't be afraid to share it.

4. Don't be afraid to go after what you want - If you wait for work to come your way, you're at the mercy of what someone else decides is a good fit. Be proactive and plan out your dream jobs, campaigns, or clients. It's free to reach out and the worse you can get is a no.

5. Don't stress about what you can't control - I've seen people get burned out by algorithms and frustrated by not gaining followers. It's natural to crave success, but focus your efforts on factors IN your control. Quality, consistency, and a friendly personality go a long way.

6. Have fun - You only have so many years to work in your life. There's things to learn from both the high and low moments professionally. Don't ever feel stuck in your current path. It's never too late to move on and pursue something you're passionate about.

7. Don't forget the people who helped you along the way - There's many people who made you the person you are. They believed in you in the early stages and that means a lot. Pay it forward whenever you can. It only takes a second to answer someone's question or help them learn.

So much love for San Diego. Between the twists and turns of that coastline, there’s such uniqueness to every beach and town that makes the city so special. You often don’t appreciate the place you grew up until you leave, and that’s one thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older. I’ve seen a lot of beautiful places in the world, but San Diego has that something special that you can’t really put a finger on.
