Here’s a clear example of improper terminations using cable clips. The old adage 'Never saddle a dead horse' applies here, meaning you should never place the saddle-shaped base of the cable clip on the side of the terminated (or dead) end of the wire rope. Doing so can cause the wire rope to slip through the clips, which is likely what is occurring in the picture.

Understanding how a shackle can be loaded is a crucial part of a rigger's expertise. Side loading on the bell of the shackle can place improper strain on the hardware, potentially forcing the jaw open and the pin out, leading to a dangerous situation where the weight may fall. Additionally, using an undersized shackle that does not allow for proper loading can be equally hazardous.

Arbor widths are designed to align with the spacing of the guide wall to which they are attached. It is essential to use the correct width of counterweights rather than mixing and matching to avoid collisions with neighboring arbors or the risk of weights slipping out during movement. Additionally, spreader plates are required at specified heights to prevent counterweights from dislodging in the event of a crash.
