Fears that a nuclear power plant disaster could be triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine have now escalated to include a nuclear plant on Russian turf. The six-reactor Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, occupied by Russian forces for more than two years, is already cause for perpetual alarm. Now, Ukrainian troops advancing into Russia are close to that country’s six-reactor Kursk nuclear power plant, the same design as the Chornobyl reactor that exploded and melted down in 1986.
