The Vietnam Vets of the 18th and 54th aviation companies that flew some of our Otters in the Vietnam War had a wonderful experience on the glacier Monday. We kept our fingers crossed that the long stretch of rain would end and we would be able to fly them in 4KT, the plane they flew. That morning we woke up to more rain and fog, but by the 6:30pm flight round, we had spectacular views of Denali and the weather was perfect for glacier landings! What a special day with plenty of joy and big smiles to go around.
Yesterday we had the very special honor of hosting a reunion of the 18th and 54th Aviation companies of the US Army who fought in the Vietnam War. Our aircrafts, 424KT (and 838KT at Rust's Flying Service ) were assigned to these companies during the war. It was a pleasure to be able to reunite the pilots and crew with 424KT, after more than 50 years. They traveled from all of the US to be able to reconnect with their aircraft and the weather could not have been better for a glacier landing. Included in the event was a special Quilt of Valor ceremony organized by Claire Priebe and Forget Me Not Quilters. We are committed to honoring the legacy of these brave Vets and sharing the history of the aircraft. Special thanks to the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge for providing appetizers and desserts for the event.

Basecamp came out today. That’s a wrap on the 2024 climbing season! Congrats to all the amazing athletes and the blessing of clear weather in May and June. The summit percentage was 52% with 511 successful summits.
