A Note from Traci...
As long as I can remember I have felt a need to move physically. Therefore, I was drawn to dance, gymnastics, diving and various athletic activities. Over time I realized my need for movement served a very specific purpose….it helped me clear my head, get into a different place, where solutions arose for problems or challenges I was facing. I recognize not everyone is geared

to move physically, however movement whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual is key in creating success. Movement facilitates shifts in perception, increases focus, encourages performance in present time and helps us break free of limiting patterns of thought and behavior. Movement re-energizes the mind, body and spirit. When moving towards a goal or the something that you want in your life; productive energy arises. Learning to channel and utilize this energy is the key to your success. As with anything, the first step requires the most effort because you must choose to step out of your comfort zone. As frustrating as feeling stuck or stagnant can be; it can also be a form of comfort. In fact, many people who think they have a fear of success are actually dealing with a familiarity with failure; in other words a familiarity with repeating the same ineffective patterns. Facilitating journeys out of ineffective patterns that keep individuals and organization feeling stuck and into energizing solutions is at the core of what I do and why I love what I do!

Being centered in dance means the abdominal muscles are engaged, which keeps the spine in alignment and allows balance to be maintained.

Life operates from the same principle as dance. If you execute actions from a centered place, you have plenty of energy, challenges are met with ease, and success flows. However, if you’re operating from a non-centered place, you have limited energy, challenges feel insurmountable, and success appears nearly impossible.

So how do you recognize when you’re centered or not? Click the link below to learn a quick exercise I use to teach this concept.

Have you ever had one of those aha moments when the blinders came off and you realized your perception of a situation was off? Often, we can become attached to a perception or a way of doing things and can’t see the other side of the coin.

Humans can view the same thing, yet perceive it differently in the mind. This ability to perceive reality differently can be a good thing, but it can also present challenges that lead to stressful and frustrating situations in the workplace and beyond.

The ability to keep an open and flexible mind is important, and it takes practice. Start simple, try changing up a habit…you know, those things you do without even thinking about it. For example...drive a new way to work, sit in a different spot at the meeting, clean your house in a new order, try a new menu item. The key, however, is not just changing up a habit...it's staying conscious of how you are feeling as you engage in the exercise.

Life is about making choices. Imagine bellying up to the counter at your local Haagen Dazs and saying to the server, "Put in there whatever you think I'd like". Of course, you wouldn't do that. With a veritable rainbow of ice cream flavors tempting you, making a choice might be difficult, but you would do it.

Granted, not many of life's choices are as lightweight as choosing between chocolate and vanilla, but what you choose and how you make choices, or don't make them, is as central to your self-esteem as taking responsibility for yourself.

Choices come in two flavors:
1. Active — when you make something happen and live with the consequences.
2. Passive — when you "choose not to choose" and continue to live with the status quo, because the stakes appear too high for the changes that choice might bring.

Active choices can be painful; feelings of fear and vulnerability often accompany these decisions. Just because you know what's best for you, doesn't make it any easier.

On the other hand, the postponement of choice can have serious backlashes in the way of stress, depression, discouragement, apathy, and even physical illness.
Procrastination seldom has any favorable results.

Life's Choices Aren't Always Easy, But They Are Always Yours!

Learning to speak your truth is not only mentally liberating, it’s also beneficial to your physical health. Holding in emotions and resentments can lead to stress, which can be taxing on the body. Releasing stressful tension is just one of the benefits of speaking truthfully. But how does one actually do this without alienating others?

Step one...aim for being real, not right. Speak from the heart, and focus on expressing your thoughts without attacking the other person. The goal is not to convince the other person your perspective is right and to gain their agreement. The goal is to share how you perceive the situation, how it makes you feel and how that feeling affects your ability to interact constructively with the individual or individual group.

I had a young elementary aged child brought to me for depression and lack of focus. He had been a vibrant and excited child who did well in school, but in the last year, had begun a steep decline. Doctors had recommended pharmaceutical drugs for his condition, but his mother did not want to go that route and brought him to see me.

It didn’t take long for me to identify the problem. The child shared that he was afraid that he would never get to be a kid. "There's school, then baseball practice, then to piano practice and then homework. I’m so tired. At least one day a week, I just want to be able to come home and go outside to play in the backyard…like a normal kid. I don’t want to do all these things all the time."

What are we conditioning our children and ourselves to believe about experiences and time? According to this child, these experiences are boxes to be checked off a ‘to do’ list, versus having the experiences for the sake of the experiences themselves.

We are full on into summer which brings fun, food, heat, and new adventures, but it can also lead to short tempers and family frustrations. I thought sharing my blog link with a list of 10 strengths would be a good reminder of how to stay strong when challenges arise.

When you master these 10 strengths, you may see help come in the form of improved relationships, greater joy and connection with yourself and others, and enhanced communication with all.

Here are the first two...click below for the rest!

1. Respond instead of react. When you react, you give away your personal power. Use your rational mind to respond, not your emotional mind.

2. Identify and learn from your judgments. Judgments are often a reflection of our own self judgements, inner needs, and values.

Happy July! I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and taking some time off to rest and recharge your batteries.

Try using some of your down time to learn and practice ways to manage stress more effectively, before September rolls around and the pace picks back up.

You’re probably aware chronic stress is very bad and can lead to big health issues, but you may not be aware of how stress actually impacts your brain. Check out the link below to my blog post to learn more!
