Yesterday was my first charter I ran in over a month since being in the keys on vacation.
It was with long time customer William and the first time he brought his daughters along. Neither one of them had been on a boat in 15 years so it was a special day for them and William.
They caught plenty of fish and took a few home for dinner.
With water temps high it looks like my main focus will be Snapper and Mackerel for the next couple of months.

Had repeat customers Jason and Alyssa on board for 3 days this week.
They caught a variety,released a lot and took a few to have prepared for dinner at a Tampa Bay area restaurant.

Its been cold and its been windy. Haven't run a lot of charters these past two months of the new year but on the ones I have we have caught a lot of fish although mostly on the smaller side.
I did get one day of calm seas that I was able to get away with my good friend Capt. Rafael Rios to do a little nearshore fishing.

Things should get better for inshore fishing as we progress into March and hopefully our water temp starts rising and the fish get more active and start showing up in there spring time haunts.

Not a crazy good bite today but Bradley and Bill caught and released a variety.
Trout, whiting,sheepshead,ladyfish and a Snook and Redfish to finish out the trip.

I had the pleasure of taking a great group of guys fishing in the Port Tampa Bay Slam tournament yesterday. I even got to hold onto a rod for a bit while one of the guys tried to figure out the iangler app.😆
One of my anglers did a great job pulling a 31 1/2 " Snook out of the bushes to take first place in big Snook division.
We caught a lot of Redfish,some Jack's and even a big Black Drum but we just couldn't complete the Slam in the tournament.

Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charters has had some amazing days on the water so far the month of October.
First and foremost I would like to give a shout out to the few other Captains who have supported my business buy sharing and trusting me to take clients of there own on charters in either corporate events or when they were booked.
Business has been at an all time low for me in my guiding career so these charters have been greatly appreciated.
Thank you Captains you know who you are!
Now on to business.
The Redfish bite is in full swing. The Snook bite is good some days and others not so good. We have been catching plenty of Trout but most are in the 14" range with some going any where from 16 to 21".
I have had some great people out this month bending rods.

Couldn't catch a decent trout the other day on charter. Today it was different. We caught some good ones.

The inshore bite is pretty good even with the high water Temps. Last couple of trips we caught and released Snook, Jacks,Trout, and Mangrove Snapper along with a variety of other species.
I expect the Snapper bite to be good through September and possibly October if we continue to have the heat we have.
Sorry no pics of trout. Don't handle them if I don't have to. Too delicate.

A short morning trip with my wife Karen today. Caught some snapper for tomorrow's dinner. Caught and released a couple of Redfish then got lunch at the Columbia Cafe on Channelside.
Really enjoying my time off during this Hot🔥 month of August.

The charter business is my full time occupation and has been since 2008. Customers often ask me how often I go fishing myself? My short answer is Not as often as I would like to anymore. The reason being is that over the years taking people fishing has consumed much of my time and doesn't allow me to get out on my own as often. The next question that typically follows is "What do you like to fish for when you do going fishing in your free time?" Its somewhat of a broad question to me but if I had to choose it would be Snapper fishing of any kind. I love Snapper fishing. Its light tackle action and it can be full of surprises! On this particular July 4th 2023 I had the pleasure of taking my wife (First time in over a year she was out fishing with me) and my best offshore fishing buddy Jimmy out. We headed out on a beautiful day about 30 miles off of St. Pete Beach to about 90' off water. It was full moon conditions so I wasn't expecting the best bite. Patiently we worked at it and as the day progressed the bite turned on. The last couple of hours of our trip the bite turned on and we were able to put a nice box of Mangrove Snapper, Red Snapper and a surprise Mutton Snapper and a mess of Mahi Mahi! Yes Snapper fishing is my favorite thing to target on my personal trips Offshore. Having my wife who is my favorite fishing and life partner on board is always a bonus. As much as I love to watch people catch fish (couldn't be a charter captain if I didn't) I sometimes have to remember I have to make time for my wife and friends. I had first time fisherman Conner and his Dad Brett on the boat today. Brett bought this charter as a Christmas gift for Conner. I ask what they would like to do and they said catch fish,have a good time and maybe take a few fish home for dinner. It was a great tide for Snapper fishing so we started with that and then went about catching and releasing some snook and a decent size southern Ray. Conner had the hot beginner's hand putting the most fish in the box.

Captain Steve has always kept it in his mind that people work hard for there money so he always works hard for them. Not wanting the reputation of the guide who is in a hurry to get back to the dock to pick up the next charter Capt. Steve chooses to only run one charter per day. He feels this gives him the best opportunity to make it the customers day and to work with the conditions handed out that day.
