For more than 40 years JW Fishers has specialized in the design and manufacture of reasonably priced, high tech underwater search equipment. Their product line includes diver-held and boat-towed metal detectors, marine magnetometers, underwater camera systems, ROVs, cable tracking systems, acoustic pingers, scanning sonar, and side scan sonar systems. Fishers side scan sonars are routinely used fo

r search and survey operations by commercial diving companies, law enforcement agencies, and military units. The system provides simplicity of operation and real-time continuous viewing of sonar images on a laptop computer. A GPS can be connected to display and store position coordinates with the sonar data. Optional map coverage software shows the path of the boat as it travels over the search area and the width of the scanned area, all overlaid onto a nautical chart. The scanned area is highlighted in yellow and overlapping scans are highlighted in green. Other features of the software included annotations and navigational markers. Three types of markers can be displayed on the map; user defined waypoints, text annotations made on the sonar file, and general purpose markers. Placing markers on the map helps in planning and performing search and survey operations. Fishers diver-held and boat-towed magnetometers are super sensitive detectors for iron and steel. These mags are rugged, reliable and easy to operate which are key reasons they are in such wide use by the commercial diving and salvage industry. Mags can locate sunken vessels, anchors, chains, pipelines, dredge heads, armored cables, moorings, and a variety of other lost objects. A GPS system can be connected to the boat-towed Proton 4 to capture position coordinates along with the readout data. Tracker software allows the mag operator to know the exact status of the search at any point in time. In the upper left of the screen is a graph with latitude and longitude showing the path of the boat as it moves over the search area. On the right hand side of the screen the mag readouts and associated position coordinates are displayed in a cascading waterfall. At the bottom of the screen is a graphical representation of the mag readouts, making it easy to see when a target is detected by the spike or dip in the graph. When an operation calls for a visual survey, Fishers underwater camera systems and ROVs are the best choice. They send real time video images to a surface monitor for viewing and recording. Connecting the On Screen Display system with a GPS allows position coordinates to be displayed and recorded with video picture. The additional information of depth, temperature, and compass heading can also be captured with the ROVs. Jack Fisher had a unique tradition of sending a random quote to his family—his mom, his beloved wife, sons, and daughters—every morning. These quotes invited reflection and served as a gentle reminder of life before the day's hustle began. On February 20th, 2015, he shared one such quote above, and that very night, the family was heartbroken to lose him unexpectedly. It was a poignant reminder of how deeply intertwined he was with everyone!

A decade has passed since that terrible day, and much has changed in the Fisher family. New spouses have joined, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been welcomed into the fold, new homes have been purchased, new jobs have been accepted, and new traditions have been made, all marking moments of joy and growth. Yet, amidst these changes, one constant remains: the cherished memories of Jack. He is profoundly missed—not just by his family but by friends, employees, and loyal customers who still fondly reminisce about their conversations with him. Even ten years later, his spirit continues to influence many lives, reminding us of the strength and wisdom he shared with everyone around him.

JW Fishers Mfg. is thriving, with new products consistently entering the market and the company experiencing ongoing growth. After over 50 years of establishing a solid foundation, Jack made the past decade a little easier for everyone involved. Today, we mourn the loss of our esteemed friend, Captain Carl "Fizz" Fismer (Carl Fismer Expeditions, INC). A loyal customer of JW Fishers for over 40 years, Carl's influence in the treasure-hunting/diving world is unparalleled. His legacy, marked by over 300 shipwreck dives and countless divers' mentorship cements his status as a legend, a real-life Indiana Jones!

Today February 20th, 2024 celebrates the 9th anniversary of our founder, Jack Fishers untimely passing.

Every year that goes by is another year that he missed by his wife, kids, grandkids, friends, employees and customers. When we go to our annual tradeshows (such as DEMA Show) we are always talking to people that remember Jack and his smile when visited at the booth. We always hear his knowledge of underwater technology was second to none!

Since his passing we have amped up the product development, marketing and tradeshow presence in an effort to have Jack's vision of underwater search equipment be in the hands of everyone in the underwater industry!

We miss you Jack!

As summer swimming and water recreation ends, and the fall begins, we should all remember how important our oceans are across the globe!

Non-profit organization The Ocean Cleanup pulled the trash from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the largest accumulation of ocean plastic in the world. It’s located between Hawaii and California and is thought to be double the size of Texas.

The #SeaOtter-2 Remote Operated Vehicle is in use across the globe on various inspection projects. Here is a video from Thames Water Supply with their ROV on the maiden voyage. This was taken in 2019 after Jon Lorimer, UAV/ROV Special Operations Manager at Thames Water, visited JW Fishers at their facility for training. Thanks Jon!

February 20th will always be remembered within the underwater search and technology industries. Five years ago today, Jack Fisher, founder and CEO of #JWFishers, passed away suddenly. He left behind a legacy in this community that was well over 50 years in the making. He was truly an inspiration to all who knew him. We are proud to continue Jack's legacy and vision. Five years later, JWF continues to thrive and grow with industry changing technologies such as the SAR-1 underwater metal detector, the Proton 5 magnetometer, LED lighting on all products, High Definition video quality, and soon a new CHIRP Side Scan Sonar System. We anticipate that the CHIRP system will be game-changing for those who make JWF part of their team. There will be no slowing down for the JWF team in the coming years. JW Fishers' official mascot, Winston, would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Winston turned two on January 1st. He has been part of the #JWFishers family since he was 8 weeks old and loves when customers visit. He is always happy to greet a new friend and spends his days lounging in the office, roaming the production floor, or helping our technicians test equipment! Take a day in 2020 to come visit the #JWF showroom. A demonstration of any equipment is as easy as calling or emailing. Just be sure to bring a treat!

SeaLion-2 performs search in poor visability enviorment

Watch JW Fishers' #SEALION2 ROV perform a search in a local New England pond with poor visibility! To increase versatility, the ROV can be mounted with a sector scannong sonar, JWF’s #SCAN650, which takes poor visability out of the equation. It performs a scan of the area and outputs the results on a computer screen or tablet. This is the ideal tool to mount on an ROV when searching for drowning victims or downed vessels. Side Scan Sonar - underwater video

Have you ever seen a #SideScanSonar in action? This video captures the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office and Fulton County Sheriff's Office using their #SSS system. Sergeant Rogan of Saratoga County was investigating a suspicious target. The operators made a few passes over the area eventually locating an old wooden boat on the murky bottom. "We checked the area around the target and nothing was found or suspicious. It looks like its just a boat that came off a dock and went down a long time ago. It was about 4x12 feet." The actual video was captured by divers completing a followup inspection of the boat, which can be easily identified in the sonar image. #JWFishers

DDW-1 doing it's job!

Need to reach greater depths with your underwater search system, but don't want to haul around extra cable? Cut the tow ratio down to 2:1 using a #JWF #DDW1 Deep Dive Wing. This tool provides users of the #SideScanSonar and #Magnetometer the ability to reach greater depths more quickly, safely, and with less drag from extra cable. The DDW-1 is not exclusive to #JWFishers products and can be used in conjunction with other brands of search equipment to provide the same results. Recently, a company in Hawaii needed a depressor to use with another company's systems. JW Fishers' DDW was the right tool for the job and JWF was able to get the equipment to them immediately. Senior field engineer Ryan Kopcso states "Thanks for your swift response and for shipping us this product. It worked great, and we’ll certainly be using it for the foreseeable future."

Attending a tradeshow takes months of planning by the entire team at JW Fishers...from checking all the equipment, to shipping, to setting up and finally getting all the equipment back to the factory and prepped for the next show. Assemby takes about 3 hours and disassembly about 2.5 hours. Here is 3 hours of assembly and the final product...in 28 seconds
