Dear fellow business owners;
As our country, states, and counties begin the process of opening for business, I wanted to express the following.
Your politics is not a matter of judgment for me. We live in a country that affords us the freedom to agree, disagree, and express our own ideas and views. If you supported, did not support, or felt our elected leaders went too far (or not far enough) with the response to the pandemic is, I feel, a moot point at this time.
I will happily participate in the reopening of our economy, and plan to support local businesses as much a possible. We all require the ability to support our families and communities.
That said, going forward, I do urge careful consideration of how we interact with each other as we open the doors, and that we continue or adopt practices that protect our customers, staff members, and their families. If you do not feel this is important, so be it. However, I will personally take (and have been taking) note… and would urge anyone who is of like mind to do the same.
Of the many benefits provided by our economic system is the ability to express our concerns with our dollars. While the overwhelming majority of the businesses I’ve observed during my limited excursions for supplies over the last several weeks have exhibited care for all those they come in contact with, there are, unfortunately, a few local businesses I will not be patronizing any longer (unless I witness a change in their practices).
When I open the doors to my own business, I will be requiring distancing, masks, and will be carefully disinfecting the environment until such time as the evidence indicates it is not critical to do so. I will provide drop off and pick-up services requiring little or no contact. I’m lucky. This will be relatively easy for me. The challenges for other types of establishments (restaurants, gyms, etc.) will require careful planning. Let’s all make sure we help support their efforts.
Best wishes to all.
