SAFETY, it's our number ONE priority! Let us show you how we became a safer airport!

In 2024 KHUF received a federal grant to regrade our Runway Safety Area (RSA) along Runway 5/23. These funds allowed us to help ensure the safety of aircraft that undershoot, overrun, or veer off the runway as well as providing a greater level of accessibility for rescue equipment should such an incident occur.
We take our responsibility to provide RSAs that are cleared and graded very seriously, and we work tirelessly to ensure there are no potentially hazardous ruts, humps, depressions, or other surface variations.

As we close out this year and this project, it's with much excitement that we can say KHUF is an even safer place to fly.

In the spirit of Halloween we thought sharing a SPOOKY aviation story would be appropriate!

Have you heard the story of The Ghosts of Flight 401?

In December 1972 Eastern Airlines Flight 401 plunged into the Everglades. The tragedy claimed 101 lives, including those of Captain Robert 'Bob' Loft and Flight Engineer Donald 'Don' Repo. The rear of the aircraft was relatively undamaged, and many parts of 401’s airframe were salvaged and reused. In the aircraft where the parts of 401 were used - especially in the galleys of other aircraft - crew who knew Loft and Repo claimed to have seen the ghosts, heard their voices, or otherwise “felt” their presence in the cabin.
The crash spawned a number of books, films and other media, along with legends of ghost sightings involving crew members who were killed.

This week we were honored to be the host airport for the 2024 Aviation Indiana Annual Conference taking place right here in our amazing Terre Haute! Over 150 airport and aviation industry professionals from across Indiana attended this year, coming together to collaborate and discuss industry updates.

Attendees were able to enjoy all the amenities Terre Haute has to offer, showcasing our community’s hospitality and vibrant spirit. Thank you to our many community partners and friends for helping make this all possible; we're lucky to call you neighbors!

A special highlight was our hometown hero and AGT winner Richard Goodall, who performed at the opening reception. Pictured with him is our Executive Director, Craig Maschino, sharing in the excitement of this incredible event!
