Warning "Misleading Information" For Trips To Venice And Paris
Slowly but surely, we are starting to see fewer ports available for major cruise lines. American Cruise just got banned by the Belfast, Maine port, following a 5-0 vote to ban cruise ships with more than 50 passengers.
Royal Caribbean saw a similar situation, also on the verge of being banned from a popular port. Nice, France wants to put a ban on large cruise ships as early as July 1st.
Cruise lines continue to adapt. However, cruisers need to know that some information might be misleading. For example, if a cruiser sees "Ravenna (Venice)," they may think that's the name of the port or an area close by. Unfortunately, that's not the case.
Here's what you need to know in order to avoid future complications.
Travelers headed to Venice, Paris or other hot spots around the world, beware of selecting a port for this destination, travelers are at times mistaken when choosing a port near Venice.
When cruise lines advertise a cruise to Venice, they will often put in parenthesis, connected with Ravenna, Italy. Ravenna is 144 km south of Venice, a 2 hour and 11-minute drive each way."
This can leaves little time to see Venice for travelers that are docked at Ravenna for a limited time.
Of course, Venice banned all cruise ships from entering the city back in 2021 following a pre-ban. The decision was made in an effort to preserve Venice and its cultural heritage.
Paris, France, is another misleading destinations for cruisers. Cruise lines advertise "Le Havre (Paris)" on 7-day voyages that include Portugal as well. However, once again, Le Havre is quite the drive to Paris.
The port is actually 198 kilometers west of Paris. Depending on traffic, a bus ride will take 2 and a half, to three hours each way. You'll need to book a river cruise if you want a cruise that gets you closer to the city.
France is continuing on with restrictions. Similar to Venice a couple of years ago, Nice, France just banned cruise ships with more than 900 passengers and longer than 623 feet.
