Halloween used to be all about fun scares, costumes, and too much candy! I loved seeing the creative costumes people came up with—even if some were hard to guess! These days, though, the “scares” feel a bit more real, and they don’t come with costumes.
We all face moments where the people around us show signs of anger, frustration, or hurt. And sometimes, those feelings come out as hurtful actions toward others. I try to remember that there may be a painful experience behind those reactions. It doesn’t excuse the behavior, but it reminds me to respond with patience and kindness—who knows, maybe it’s exactly what they need to see some good in the world again.
Every day, I aim to bring a little hope where I can. Just like that “thing with feathers” Emily Dickinson described, hope is something we can all share. And maybe, just maybe, it’ll help someone see the light in themselves, too.
