Every day, at the end of the Pilgrim's Mass at 7:30 p.m., the Communion Chapel hosts a vigil in which to share a moment of prayer and reflection on the pilgrimage made.

Cada día, al finalizar la Misa del Peregrino de las 19:30 h, la capilla de la Comunión acoge una vigilia en la que compartir un momento de oración y reflexión sobre la peregrinación realizada.

In Galicia, grain silos called Horreos (pronounced Oreos) are a common sight along the Camino. These structures are designed to store grains and protect them from moisture and pests. They are typically made of wood or stone and have a unique, elongated shape that allows for efficient air circulation and drying of the grains.

St. James in Spanish is Santiago. You can identify the apostle in statues and pictures as he usually has a scallop shell, cloak and walking stick. St. James was the first martyr for the Catholic faith.

A pilgrim's passport, or credential, is used on the Camino to collect stamps to show your progress on The Way. Sometimes the stamp will be available for you to stamp yourself, other times the place will stamp it for you. Every single place will have a stamp- grocery stores, shops, restaurants, hotels, churches, banks- literally everywhere. In order to earn the Compostela, the official certificate from the Catholic Church, you must get 2 stamps a day along the last 100km. I love stamps as each one is a unique design and color, and I tend to get about 5 stamps a day from the last 100km and a couple a day of when walking longer distances. At Hike the Way, we'll send you the official pilgrim's passport in your Welcome packet before your trip. Buen Camino!

Madrid has 2 train stations- Chamartin and Atocha. Chamartin takes you to Sarria, Ourense, Santiago and other places around western Spain. While Atocha will take you to Pamplona, Leon, and other destinations in eastern and northern Spain.

Chamartin has been under construction for almost 2 years, and it's still a mess. Almost no place to sit, very crowded and kind of dirty. Give yourself plenty of time, but not too much time (45 mins before departure is suggested) to navigate and traverse this unfortunate renovation project. Most of Madrid is fantastic, and Chamartin will be too, just not yet.

Train schedules come out 4-8 weeks ahead of time. They're one of the last items you'll book before your Camino. The official website is Renfe.com for booking Spanish trains. Do not book anywhere else, even if they say you can book before the published fares come out. And the Renfe site is a little tricky to use in the US, so call Hike the Way if you need help booking.

Buen Camino, friends!
