Louis Graziano to be honored August 29, 2024-9:00 a.m.

The City of Thomson is honoring Master Sergeant (R) Louis Graziano with a street renaming ceremony. Thursday, August 29, 2024 -9:00 a.m. National Avenue & Church Street. The public is invited to attend. He is the last survivor to the Articles of Surrender in Reims, France with the Germans to end the War in Europe. He worked directly with General Eisenhower. Please come out and show your support for our 101-year young WWII hometown hero! The ceremony will be around 30 minutes and seating will be limited, so feel free to bring your own lawn chair.

In January 1943, twenty-year-old Louis Graziano received a letter from Uncle Sam ordering him to report to Fort Niagara, New York, for a physical. Louis landed in the third wave on D-day on Omaha Beach and later participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He is the last known living veteran to have witnessed the historic surrender in France on 7 May 1945.

Cars, motorcycles, and military vehicles are welcome.
