Why is scent training relevant in medical training environments? 👩‍⚕️ On a recent episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, cast members of “Grey’s Anatomy” were chatting about making their on-show acting experiences authentic. It was said that the showrunner had actors partake in actual medical scenarios to understand their roles better. Actress Kim Raver shared that she was a guest in a patient's open heart surgery, explaining she almost passed out when she smelled burning flesh (during cauterization of the incision). Raver’s experience is not uncommon. If a person or professional is not prepared to experience the raw emotions and physical reactions during such an event, they may not be able to perform their duties...in this case, a life-saving open heart medical procedure. The 9D experience combines computer-generated 3D images, virtual reality, a moving seat system, scent generation and a whirlwind of special effects. The combined power of these sensorial elements creates an experience that is both unique and memorable.
