We're excited to announce that the Tigard Chamber is partnering with the National Civics Bee to host a local Civics Bee right here in Tigard! This annual competition inspires 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from across Oregon to dive into civics and make a difference in their communities.

Students are invited to submit a short essay identifying a problem, challenge, or opportunity in their community – and share their ideas for contributing to its improvement, including who they’d work with to bring their solutions to life. Open to public, private, charter, and homeschool students, the National Civics Bee is an initiative to boost civic knowledge and engagement. Entry is free, and we can't wait to see the amazing ideas our young leaders have to offer!

In September, Oregon’s nonfarm employment rose by 1,700 jobs, building on August’s gains. The state’s unemployment rate held steady at 4.0%, slightly up from 3.9% a year ago.

Washington County saw a similar boost, with nonfarm employment increasing by 1,700 jobs, reaching a total of 311,600. Leading sectors included professional/business services (+400), private education/health services (+300), and leisure/hospitality (+200), with minor declines in financial activities and information (-100 each).

Our Graph of the Month highlights a significant shift in Washington County’s workforce over the past three decades: workers aged 55+ now make up 23%, while younger workers (14-24) represent only 11%.
