You know what you’ll NEVER regret?

Taking the dang trip.

When I got back from Aruba and Tulum this past summer, I couldn’t help but think of how much travel has changed me over the years.

So many new perspectives, ideas, and inspiration come to me every time I take myself out of the everyday chaos and take myself somewhere else.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your never-ending to-do list, stuck in a rut with the same old routine, or just plain exhausted from the daily grind,

🌎 Travel Tip: Leave Your Home Expectations…at Home! 🏠 😜

HOW NOT TO EXPECT HOME AWAY FROM HOME:

▪️Cultural Deep Dive: arm yourself with Google, learn about your destination quirks & customs. Impress locals with your insider knowledge (or at least don’t stick out like a sore thumb).

▪️Local Grub Club: join the club and eat like a local! Embrace the mystery meat & live to tell the tale.

▪️Phrase of the Day: learn phrases like “where’s the bathroom?”. Trust me, it’s always a hit and might save you in a pinch - literally!

▪️Flexibility is Key: the plan is there is no plan. Go with the flow and let the local vibe guide your stride.

⭐️ PRO TIP: Remember, expecting something different is the whole point! If you wanted everything to be the same, you could’ve stayed home and binge-watched travel shows in your pajamas, right?

If you had unlimited time and resources, which country would you choose to explore in-depth and why?

Right now, for me, I would say Italy. After 12 days there this past summer, I feel like I only touched the surface of what this beautiful country has to offer. There are so many parts to Italy from the coastlines, to the country sides, to the mountains and lakes. Each region is so different, and of course let's not forget the food and wine! But I think what really has me wanting more are the people that I met along the way.

I’m always curious to learn about people’s dream destinations and what gets them most excited about travel.

Let’s be honest! Travel isn’t always easy and airports can be one’s worst nightmare. But if you do travel frequently, there are ways to help minimize the headaches of security.

✔️ TSA PreCheck - no removing shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts or light jackets. Your kids under 17 can join a TSA PreCheck Adult when TSA PreCheck appears on their boarding pass. And it’s good for 5yrs!

✔️ CLEAR - CLEAR memberships expedite the ID check screening at airports (and stadiums & entertainment venues) to make security go even faster. CLEAR works no matter what airline you are flying. CLEAR is an annual membership, and more costly than TSA PreCheck, but the benefits may be outweighed for you?

✔️ Global Entry - if you regularly travel internationally, this may be good to consider! It helps expedite border crossings for low-risk, pre-approved travelers. EFFECTIVE 10/1/24, the application fee will be increasing from $100 to $120. However, for minors under 18yr, the application will change from $100 to ZERO if the application is submitted concurrently with a parent or legal guardian OR the parent or legal guardian is already a Trusted Traveler member.
Global Entry is good for 5 years AND does include TSA PreCheck benefits!

Bottom line, if you travel often, consideration of any of these programs could be a benefit.

What I would tell my younger self, travel edition ✈️

I would tell her:

~ Don't live vicariously through others! Make your own travel dreams come true and LIVE for yourself!

~ ALWAYS have a vacation on the books! Even if it is a year away, the time will pass so quickly! There is nothing like the anticipation or excitement of a dream trip to look forward to!

~ Start your kids traveling when they are young. Let them grow up knowing experiences and memories are so much better than THINGS!

~ While all-Inclusive resorts and cruises are great, don't be afraid to STAY on an island. Book that Non-AI resort, rent the car, experience more than one day on an island or destination port, eat like the locals and you will be surprised how interesting and truly good the food can be outside a cruise or resort! Learn to appreciate where you are.

They are the best for organization! 6. My faithful "Stanley" - hydration is key when traveling! 7. Zip Lock Bags - these just come in handy when you least expect it! 8. Prescription & OTC meds - staying healthy while traveling is key! 9. An Extra Set of Clothes in my carryon - nothing worse than when that luggage doesn't show up! 10. Snacks - just bring them. One day you will thank me! I'm headed to Canada in November for some family time, and you won't catch me without these!
