There are a lot of changes in the new 5-year structure for big game hunting this year. I am putting the major dates and changes here but I suggest that you go to this website to verify and get more information: https://cpw.widen.net/s/jfmjq77qrx/final_bgss2025-2029
The biggest changes that are noted here are:
1. Archery elk will now require that non-residents put in for the draw to get a limited license. It will still be across-the-counter for residents.
2. 1st season will now allow deer and elk hunting. 1st and 4th season will still be draw only. 2nd and 3rd will be across the counter for everyone (for bulls).
3. The late season private land will run from August 15th to January 31st and might allow for some bulls in addition to cows. This will be determined each year based on populations.
This is my understanding of what 2025 hunting seasons will look like:
2025 Colorado Hunting Season Dates:
Archery: Deer and Elk.............September 2nd - September 30th
New: Elk and Deer are draw only for Non-Residents
Elk is over-the-counter for residents
Moose………….…..September 6th – September 30th
Pronghorn (bucks only)...Aug. 15th – August 31st
Pronghorn (either sex)….Sept.1s t – Sept. 21st
Muzzleloading: Elk, Deer, Moose..Sept.13th – 21st (draw only)
Rifle Seasons:
• Moose…………………………October 1st – 14th
• 1st: Pronghorn……………….....October 4th – 12th
New 2nd:Pronghorn………………….October 18th- 26th
Elk:
New 1st: Combined Deer/Elk.........October 8th-12th 2nd: Combined Deer/Elk..........October 25th -Nov. 2nd 3rd: Combined Deer/Elk..........Nov. 8th - Nov. 16th 4th: Combined Deer/Elk..........November 19th – 23rd (draw only)
• Late (Private Land). Aug. 15th - Jan. 31st (draw only). This season could include some bull hunting in addition to cows based on population numbers.
The deadline for applying for one of the special, draw-only licenses is April 1, 2025. (1st Tuesday in April)
