Coberly Creek Outfitters

Coberly Creek Outfitters If you are looking for easily accessed hunting, combined with warm, comfortable accommodations and three hot meals per day, then this is the place for you!
(11)

This working ranch is located in the center of the best elk hunting country in Colorado. It is nestled between the Flattops, the Yampa Valley and Gore Pass. In addition to great hunting on the 3,400 acre private ranch, the Routt National Forest borders the property on three sides. The permit area includes 10,000 acres of hunting on the National Forest. Convenient access to the hunting areas make i

t easy to return to the lodge for a hot lunch each day. Hunting on the property is accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles, an 8-wheel ATV, which can be fitted with tracks for snow travel, or by horseback. No vehicles are allowed on the National Forest so hunting access in the forest is either by horse or an easy walk from the border of the ranch property.

4th rifle season started out pretty slow. We finally got a little snow and a lot of cold on the 4th day. The elk started moving and Nick Weiss got a chance to test his Arizona lungs and agility when he had to hike some steep slippery hills to get within 350 yards of this young cow. All it took was one shot at that distance (all the while gasping for air) to drop her. By the time the Argo made it up to load her out, it was dark and right around 4 degrees! Enjoy those steaks this winter, Nick!

Ryan Yonkman, from Illinois, said he wouldn't get me a photo of the really nice buck that he shot a few days ago until he got his bull. Well, that happened today on his last hunt of the trip. Great shooting and way to hang in there in that cold! Enjoy all that meat, Ryan!

Evidently it is big buck week. The snow has the deer on the move and the elk are keeping a low profile (so far). So Patrick Lavender took the opportunity to bag this big guy on a frigid morning right after the snow fall finally stopped and the clouds moved out. Congratulations!

2nd season opened with a lot of snow, low clouds, and fog. Not much visibility all day but it finally lifted a little bit right before dark. That is all it took for Lucas Yonkman, from Michigan, to spot this buck and to get close enough to take a good shot.

Adding to the drama, Dan McMullen from Iowa, waited until the last hunt to get this 4x4 bull. He may not be as big as Troy's 7x7 from last year, but he will definitely taste better. Congratulations, Dan!

We all knew that snow on the day before 1st rifle season opened should get the elk moving. Opening day actually started out with mule deer everywhere. By evening, the elk started to move. Billy Cantrell from Georgia, took his successful shot at this 5x5 just before dark. Congratulations, Billy!

The only thing to make the day better was to call in a nice 4-point bull. Zach Wasielewski took a 26 yard shot to successfully complete his elk hunting for the week. Of course, then there is the pack out. Luckily the pack horses were able to do the heavy lifting so Brad just had to carry the head out. Great job!

A beautiful start to a great day of archery hunting. Photo credit goes to Brad Wasielewski.
