Coberly Creek Outfitters

Coberly Creek Outfitters If you are looking for easily accessed hunting, combined with warm, comfortable accommodations and three hot meals per day, then this is the place for you!

This working ranch is located in the center of the best elk hunting country in Colorado. It is nestled between the Flattops, the Yampa Valley and Gore Pass. In addition to great hunting on the 3,400 acre private ranch, the Routt National Forest borders the property on three sides. The permit area includes 10,000 acres of hunting on the National Forest. Convenient access to the hunting areas make i

t easy to return to the lodge for a hot lunch each day. Hunting on the property is accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles, an 8-wheel ATV, which can be fitted with tracks for snow travel, or by horseback. No vehicles are allowed on the National Forest so hunting access in the forest is either by horse or an easy walk from the border of the ranch property.

There are a lot of changes in the new 5-year structure for big game hunting this year. I am putting the major dates and changes here but I suggest that you go to this website to verify and get more information: https://cpw.widen.net/s/jfmjq77qrx/final_bgss2025-2029

The biggest changes that are noted here are:
1. Archery elk will now require that non-residents put in for the draw to get a limited license. It will still be across-the-counter for residents.
2. 1st season will now allow deer and elk hunting. 1st and 4th season will still be draw only. 2nd and 3rd will be across the counter for everyone (for bulls).
3. The late season private land will run from August 15th to January 31st and might allow for some bulls in addition to cows. This will be determined each year based on populations.

This is my understanding of what 2025 hunting seasons will look like:

2025 Colorado Hunting Season Dates:
Archery: Deer and Elk.............September 2nd - September 30th
New: Elk and Deer are draw only for Non-Residents
Elk is over-the-counter for residents

Pronghorn (either sex)….Sept.1s t – Sept. 21st

Muzzleloading: Elk, Deer, Moose..Sept.13th – 21st (draw only)

Rifle Seasons:
• Moose…………………………October 1st – 14th
• 1st: Pronghorn……………….....October 4th – 12th
New 2nd:Pronghorn………………….October 18th- 26th
Elk:
New 1st: Combined Deer/Elk.........October 8th-12th 2nd: Combined Deer/Elk..........October 25th -Nov. 2nd 3rd: Combined Deer/Elk..........Nov. 8th - Nov. 16th 4th: Combined Deer/Elk..........November 19th – 23rd (draw only)
• Late (Private Land). Aug. 15th - Jan. 31st (draw only). This season could include some bull hunting in addition to cows based on population numbers.
The deadline for applying for one of the special, draw-only licenses is April 1, 2025. (1st Tuesday in April)

It wasn't all elk hunting. The boys had a great time with the evening rabbit hunts (especially the ones that were too young for elk hunting). Of course, they insisted on bringing their rabbit to the hanging barn for proper treatment (not sure which one of them is planning on eating a jack rabbit.....)

Not meaning to neglect the rest of the family - on opening day, Trevor Elis shot a yearling cow (no photo). The next day, Aiden Edwards shot a tasty yearling as well. Lots of great meat! And even better - great family time!

Great family day for the last day of 4th season. Alayna Edwards is only slightly happier than her grandpa with a really nice 5x5 bull!

Opening morning of Rifle Moose hunting and Paul Snyder is finished. After a quick pack out with the Argo, the meat was in the freezer within a couple hours (pretty important when it is as hot as it has been).
