If you did, you had to navigate a complex entry reservation system. If you visited during the Summer of 2023, you may have noticed the massive crowds. Your experience matters. The powers that be at Yosemite want your feedback about the Visitor Access Management Plan and Environmental Assessment. As summer winds down and Labor Day marks the unofficial end of the season, I can’t help but reminisce about my incredible summer vacations. It all started at Yosemite National Park. Vernal Fall was gushing. As you can see, I was in the splash zone. Yosemite Falls was on full blast. I made it up to Columbia Rock. Look, there was still a speck of snow left on top of Half Dome! After a day of hiking, my Yosemite home was the Curry Village cabin. I'm already dreaming about Summer Vacation 2025.

Fireflies

Summer 2024 was great! Great Smoky Mountains National Park was the 30th National Park that I visited. When I visited in June, it was firefly season. You must enter a lottery for a chance to win a parking pass during the peak viewing period. Unfortunately, I was not lucky. However, fireflies can be seen in other areas outside of the park, like behind our hotel.

The people who settled in the area that became Great Smoky Mountains National Park were resourceful. They diverted water from the river to power the grist mill. The round stone, with another one sitting top of it, is what grinds the corn. Cool!

I'm still reminiscing about Summer 2024. I visited National Park #30, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I have 33 more to go. Here is a picture of the Smoky Mountains from Clingmans Dome. The "smoke" is moisture and organic compounds coming from the vegetation. The best time to see the "smoke" is on humid days. I'm glad I got to see a bit of it.

Summer is coming to an end. It's time to look back at Summer 2024. I visited National Park #30 - Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can expect to see waterfalls, historic buildings, and, if you time it right, fireflies.

The picture on the left was taken at Abrams Falls. It was a 5.17 mile hike. The picture on the right was taken at Cataract Falls, which was less than 2 miles round trip.

The look on my face tells the story of the difference in miles and difficulty - tired on the left, and bright and smiling on the right. 🤣

Happy Birthday Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!

⏲️ We were going to wait until 1:08 HST to post this but just can't wait that long.

🎂 Today is Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park's birthday! Your park is 108 years old on...wait for it...8/01! 108 on 801. 😲

No matter how you slice it, that's a lot of candles on our cake. Your “like”👍 helps us blow ‘em all out. And sorry we couldn't hold out 'til 1:08 p.m. to get the party started!

Wait, there's more! We wish our sister park, Haleakalā National Park (hey 👋 Sis!) Hauʻoli Lā Hānau too. When Hawaii National Park was established in 1916, it included Haleakalā, Kīlauea and Mauna Loa. Haleakalā became its own national park in 1961 (they get two birthdays, not fair.)

When exactly, is the "right" time to travel and how far in advance do you need to start booking your trip? In general, the further away the location, the longer the vacation, and the more complicated the itinerary, the more time you'll want to have. We'd recommend starting to plan those types of trips at least twelve months in advance. On the flipside, if you're feeling spontaneous and flexible, ask us about last minute deals!

Hi! It's me again, Dora, your favorite travel advisor. I was in beautiful Asheville, NC, for the Adventure Travel Trade Association's Elevate conference. I learned a lot about the travel industry and met a lot of adventure tour companies. I'm equipped with more knowledge to make your adventure vacations even more adventurous.

This is Dora, your favorite travel advisor. I'm back from another great trip! This picture is one of the yummy meals I had in Asheville, NC. Yes, Asheville; did you think I was in Hawaii? I found a little piece of Hawaii in Asheville at a restaurant called Huli Sue's BBQ and Grill. They served guava lemonade which I don't usually see. I had the Sue's huli chicken. The food was ono [delicious].

Travel tip - bag for shoes

When you're traveling, pack an extra bag that takes up little space, such as a plastic bag, and place your shoes inside. This will prevent the dirty soles of your shoes from touching your clothes!
