This bear showed up 13 miles north of Owls Hoot (away from the Natl. Park, toward Maryville) at our residence yesterday in broad day light and again during the night. We hope he's just moving through.

We're replacing the roof and skylights this week at Owl's Hoot Chalet, plus doing other maintenance like replacing or sanding and staining areas recently damaged by a dog guest 😔 We receive many comments and reviews about how well maintained Owl's Hoot Chalet is (not to mention clean). So here's a shoutout and deep gratitude to Rob who takes good care of these vital needs so that you can continue to enjoy Owl's Hoot Chalet for years to come. Please enjoy black bears from a distance and don't contribute to the problem. A fed bear is a dead bear. More info is available inside Owl's Hoot Chalet.

With more than 14,500 black bears roaming the four-state mountain region that includes Great Smoky Mountains National Park, potential for human-bear conflict is high. Gateway communities around the park and initiatives like BearWise are working to address these issues, with two Smokies cities recently launching programs to reduce bears' access to trash within their limits.
