Three days of 90+ temps and the water cooled! How? High winds blew the warm water out and it was replaced with cold Lake Michigan water.
The baitfish seemed to follow the warm water. A little less violent wind will help alot. Soon, I hope, we can get the vegetation growing.
As soon as the temps stabilize our smallmouth numbers will increase. Right now it is quality not quantity.
It may be the second week of July before we get the "true" July pattern.

Stay safe and keep catching them!
(Quiet Cove's Beavertail worm was our best today.)

Busy times as we wade through June! New friends got on board and we had fun!
Lots of fun-size fish (that means small) and a few (too few) tanks. Three pictured were 5.40 and up.

Soon, we will be exclusively on the big lake...

Until then, be safe and stay happy!

A successful day on a busy Lake Charlevoix. It was even busier because of a tournament that none of us could find registered on the state site.
But the warm night had the fish aggressive from the start and that made the boat launch traffic jam worth it!

Be seeing many of you soon--be safe.

The wind has shut us down from Saturday through Tuesday. Much too dangerous to go where we want to go. Today was very good on inland waters. Many of the postspawners have made their way
to the break edges.

PICS:

The wildfire smoke is very noticeable as seen in the harbor at Elk Rapids.

Included are fish accidentally omitted last posting.

Be safe my friends...

Release the hounds! The 2025 bass tournament season has begun and there are boats eveywhere. I did see a couple boats make serious contact with the bottom of Lake Michigan. One boat motored off after getting out of their boat into the shin-deep water to dislodge. Hoping all is okay with those involved.
5.24 was biggest from an inland lake and a 6.05 out of the big lake.
Will squeeze in some cisco and lake trout fishing for the smoker as they swarm the shallows for a couple weeks.

Be safe my friends...

As opposed to John Fogerty's "I see the bad moon arising" this would be "the good moon setting".
But as much as I look forward to the full moon (and the dark of the moon) the April and May cycles require wind--not too much but wind.
Our two best days this week were very lackluster until midday and then it all happened.
Well over half our fish this week came on QUIET COVE'S jerkbaits.
(In clear water the rainbow trout pattern was good--otherwise several others were just fine.)

Remember, last year's rates apply to you if you fished with me in 2023 or 2024. Just mention it when you call.

Be safe!

Happy Mother's Day...

A very good week for smallmouth fishing highlighted by two contrasting days.
One day too much wind gave us around 50 brown fish with none over 4 lbs. (So windy the clear water we started with was a muddy, dirty mess at the end.)
Today we had light and variable winds. And on the big lake that can be a problem. But we had 16 smallies with thirteen over three lbs. Biggie was 6.42 and best five just broke 26 lbs.

Back at it tomorrow.

Be safe my friends.

Miss you Mom.

I know I'm late with this post.

I could attribute it to sore hands from handling too many smallmouth making it painful to post!

No, I scheduled warranty work on the new boat before the arrival of next week's groups. We are ready.

On windy days, the brown fish have been cooperative, with one day yielding 30 keepers in four hours, whereas a calm day proved significantly TOUGHER.

I appreciate Camp and Cruise for efficiently completing the warranty work. Additionally, thank you to the support technicians at Lowrance and PowerPole for their assistance.

Be safe, my friends

I'm very excited for the upcoming week--it is going to get even better!

Be safe and will see many of you soon.

I hope you're having an enjoyable Easter.

It's been a busy week fishing for cold-water smallmouth. The merhod used has gone back and forth between late winter and early spring.

The baitfish are trying to move up but the cold nights is hindering that. When the nights stayed warm we had aggressive fish and springtime fishing.

4.90 lbs was biggest smallie this week but lots of fish in the 3 to 4.5 lb range.

Since most years would have us still looking at ice on April 20, we are ahead of the game in 2025.

Let's all be safe and enjoy!

HERE WE GO AGAIN! 2025!..been at it for a couple weeks with most of our fish caught in water below 40 degrees. We broke ice yesterday on GT Bay but had 39 to 42 degree water today. And with this full moon--good numbers with the last smallie of the day weighing 5.30.
Rain and snow forecast for the next few days.
Will update in a week or so--be safe and good fishing.

Reviewing these pics warmed my heart and soul as the depressing snow that started on Thanksgiving has not gone away. Most of it lake effect which means I have Lake Michigan all the way to my doorstep!

I didn't have to look hard to find these pics from this past summer.

Thanks for all the early bookings and I look forward to more of this!
