The world’s largest iceberg, A23a, has been on the move, and some of our lucky Antarctica guests recently got a stunning close-up view!

From M/V Hondius Daily Log:
“One of the highlights today was sailing impressively close to the enormous tabular iceberg A23a, a frozen giant that loomed on the horizon like a city of ice. The proximity to the iceberg brought an abundance of wildlife, including humpback whales surfacing nearby and an array of seabirds. Cape petrels, Antarctic prions, and other avian companions danced through the fog, adding life to the subdued seascape.”

Calved from Antarctica’s Filchner Ice Shelf in 1986, A23a has been slowly spinning northward and is now less than 200 miles from South Georgia. (Map courtesy of BBC. Photo credit: Jade Heister)

This week, we’re celebrating 5 years of adventure with Kevin.

He’s the ultimate connector between our travelers, Adventure Specialists, and operators, ensuring seamless travel experiences and providing client support when colleagues are in the field.

Last March, Kevin embarked on an epic journey to Antarctica, where he saw whales every single day and captured incredible footage—nearly sacrificing his phone for the perfect underwater shot.

He’s visited the Galapagos and Alaska, and with a keen eye for detail, excels as an Adventure Coordinator, helping others explore with confidence and excitement. In the office, he’s our go-to Sports Commissioner, organizing fun sports brackets that bring a little friendly competition to our team.

Thank you for 5 years, Kevin!

Dashing through the fjords,
On a ship both small and grand,
Over waves we soar,
With Santa in command!

He’s left the sleigh behind,
For glaciers, seals, and ice,
With skiffs and kayaks we’ll explore,
This journey’s oh so nice!

May your holidays bring smooth sailing and plenty of cheer. Warm wishes from all of us at AdventureSmith.

12/12/2024 – In the Field Report – Galápagos Islands

“The Galapagos is blowing my mind. This morning on Española Island, I checked so many species off my list before it was even 10 am! We caught the endemic waved albatross before they leave for the winter and had two close encounters with the elusive Galápagos hawk. Nazca bo***es were also raising their fluffy fledglings, so we got to witness incredible family bonding and feeding moments. Earlier in the week we swam with sea lions and watched from the skiff as one tossed its fish in the air like a juggling act—a move that attracted a flurry of frigatebirds. For a change of pace, we took a three-kilometer bike ride to a sugarcane plantation. The ride ended sweetly with a taste of locally made molasses and rum from the nicest farmer” - Kiel S.

But leave it to our expert Taylor to take it to new depths—and make history with the flag’s first-ever underwater appearance! And she nailed it.

We are back from Adventure Next Costa Rica, hosted by the amazing Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), and what an adventure it was!

The pre-adventures were jam-packed with fun and thoughtfully planned activities like rafting, night walks, kayaking, horseback riding, farm tours and even cooking classes, all showcasing Costa Rica’s legendary wilderness and hospitality.

The conference that followed was equally dynamic and impactful. From meeting with our long-time tour operators and hotel representatives to connecting with sustainability advocates and the Costa Rica tourism board. It was inspiring to collaborate with like-minded attendees passionate about shaping the future of responsible travel.

Thank you, Costa Rica and ATTA, for such an energizing and beautifully executed event.

Our quest (hint, hint!) to bring you the best in small-ship adventures never ends!

So we’re excited to introduce the newest additions to our Arctic fleet: the 50-guest Quest and three 12-guest vessels. These four “micro-cruises” are the smallest ships we now represent in Svalbard and Greenland.

Ships this small are a rarity in the polar regions, but offer exactly what our travelers want: quiet moments and meaningful connections.

In 2025, you can embark on one of six new trips with only 11-49 fellow travelers.
