Perhaps you are wondering “why the company name - Bio Bio Expeditions?” Our history is grounded in our strong South American roots and our deep love for the wild rivers and luscious forests of southern Chile. We formed our company in the early 90's on the mighty Bio Bio River in Chile. The Bio Bio River helped launch our company and out of deep respect for this iconic river and the indigenous peop

le living on its banks, we found the name for our adventure travel company. It feels like no coincidence to us that "Bio" in Spanish means life, as it is the life affirming, life enhancing nature of low-impact adventure travel that is our passion. Unfortunately, the Bio Bio River was eventually dammed but we didn't want to leave! We traveled further south, into Patagonia, and found ourselves on the Futaleufu River in Chile. We started small, built lasting and solid relationships with the local people, and slowly established ourselves as one of the premiere and respected companies on the river. We are proud of our standing in the local community and the knowledge of the area we have gained over the years. We are proud that our international staff of professional rafting and kayaking guides return year after year to work with us. We are proud that our guests like to return year after year as well, to paddle the crystalline waters, gallop through the meadows, soak in the hot tub, laugh by the fire, eat incredible meals, and make life-long friends and memories.

Paying tribute to Dave Allardice – the man, the myth, the legend. For real though, not being hyperbolic. He was one of those guys who was a visionary to the sport of rafting which led him to become a true river legend.

Dave brought commercial rafting to the waters roaring out of the Himalaya in Nepal. This is where Marc Goddard, owner of Bio Bio Expeditions, met him in 1992 while they were both guiding.

Fast forward to 2009 and the first descent of the Drangme Chhu in Bhutan. It was through Dave’s scouring of maps, perseverance in overcoming a challenge and willingness to go into the unknown that brought about the expedition which comprised of 17 clients and 7 Guides - Mikey Abbott, Pierro Vellutino, Allan Ellard, Jib Ellison, Rob Hind, Marc Goddard and of course, Dave Allardice.

As with many of the greats, Dave passed away too soon - only a few years after the first descent in Bhutan. His presence is always missed at the oars, but his memory lives on in the stories, triumphs and every person who experiences the exhilaration of the South Asian whitewater.

Apparently the participants of our newest trip (Japan Ski/Snowboard Adventure CME with Wilderness and Travel Medicine) convinced their entire plane on the way to Japan to do a snow dance with them, because they are experiencing the !
