“TLDR: Oakley had 2 seizures today and is being hospitalized overnight. Hopefully he’ll be sent home tomorrow.

Today was a day and this morning was a stressful start to it.

This morning, a little before 9:15, Oakley had a seizure. He refused his breakfast and was acting anxious and a little disoriented. After a few minutes outside he fell onto his side and seized for maybe a couple of minutes.

As soon as he recovered we rushed to get dressed and harnessed up and head to the emergency vet, VCA. Oakley was taken back pretty immediately upon our arrival.

While at the vet he showed no signs of going into a seizure so at 1pm we were being discharged with a sedative in case he seized again. Before we even got in the car, Oakley started having another seizure and the vet staff came out and rushed him back to get him stable.

Once he was stabilized it was determined that with him having 2 seizures within the same day he needed to be hospitalized and we needed to start onboarding phenobarbital through an IV catheter. Because of the cost ($4000) to do so at VCA they helped us make arrangements to transfer him to a different vet, Civano, where it would be under $3000.

Oakley was disoriented for the car ride to Civano but did well. Once we got there, we got him checked in and he is now there for the night. His blood work came back noting inflammation and we are awaiting his Valley fever results. The vet will call in the morning with an update on how he is doing.

THIS SATURDAY: Rescue groups (for all kinds of animals!) will set up in the Magee Campus south parking lot and hold a giant rummage sale! All proceeds benefit the rescues doing the selling.

Admission is FREE! Shop for treasures and bargains while helping local animal shelters and rescues. (There's a bake sale, too!)
