This is a tough one to read but it is part of the local history of Tunkhannock.

If you read the article, you'll see that Dr. B. E. Bidleman, was the coroner and one of the attending physicians. Dr. Bidleman was the son of Tunkhannock blacksmith Deemer Bidleman who is the first person we've found to have lived in the house at 71 Warren Street, now known as The White House on Warren. Dr. Bidleman grew up in this house!

For those who love to do local research, there are MANY articles on newspapers.com about local residents being brought to the house for urgent medical care! I often think of that when I'm in the house and think about what an important part the Bidleman family had in our local history!

Isn't this interesting?

Deemer Bidleman was a blacksmith who moved to Tunkhannock from Bloomsburg in 1850. He worked at the Gearhart Foundry just down the street from where he lived at 71 Warren Street, which is now The White House on Warren!

I'd love to find the "large crayon portrait" of the late Deemer Bidleman and take photo of it so we can hang it in The White House on Warren!

After digging into the property history of The White House on Warren, the oldest records we've found show that the property was originally owned by Thomas Truxton Slocum.

Does that name sound familiar?

Local residents probably recognize the name of Thomas Truxton Slocum because because he is the one who donated the land to build the Wyoming County Courthouse!

If you're looking for something unique to do this upcoming fall/holiday season, we want to recommend booking White House on Warren to visit with your friends/family!

Since starting as an airbnb in July 2023, we've had several people book White House on Warren to have extra space to cook and welcome their out of town friends/family! We often have guests book the house to try something new, so they can walk around downtown, and/or because they want to welcome friends/family back home but don't have a big enough house to gather. The White House on Warren is VERY spacious and comfortable so we hope you'll consider booking it to create memories with your family/friends!

Another favorite photo of Warren Street from back in the day! We are so thankful for everyone who loves this area so much and who have shared photos like this one in local history facebook groups! ❤️

Who wants something fun to do?! PLEASE ask your older friends and family members to look through their old photos and see if you can find "new" photos to share with all of us local history lovers!

So many people have told me that they have a lot of photos saved safely somewhere that they should go through someday.... please help me encourage people to go through them while our older friends and family members are alive so we can learn from them and their photos!!❤️

This is one of our favorite photos of The White House on Warren! 😳

Look to the left to see this gorgeous historic house! So far, we've been able to find proof that this house at 71 Warren Street was there ~1850's but we're still digging to find the exact year!

Fun fact? I believe it was build before the street was named "Warren Street" so it is fun to research it! If anyone has ideas about how we find the exact year it was built, please let us know!
