The Adirondack Great Camps built in the late 1800's and early 1900's were rustic but elegant homes owned by America's most well heeled individuals. No expense was too great though many of these "vacation cottages" were used only a few weeks each summer. It was a place for the very wealthy and their friends to get away from the hectic pace of the cities. Many of these people lived quietly amongst t
he forest while loons made their mournful cries and wind whistled softly through the giant pines. Some entertained lavishly but in a soft gracious style. Since Dry Island is a private Adirondack luxury estate, you may do as you wish in any clothing you choose on your vacation. If you prefer that the staff leave for several hours or days, just say the word and you will have the entire island to yourself. Upon arrival at our mainland dock for your 10 minute journey to Dry Island, you will be greeted with champagne and hors d'oeuvres. Dry Island is a private family compound whose owner opens up their main house, log cabin and boathouse to those seeking luxurious lodging and accommodations on Upper Saranac Lake, within the Adirondack Wilderness. A limited number of guests are allowed each year to stay at Dry Island and take in what can include amazing sunrises. A swim, then some wonderful fishing. There are some very large pike, bass and trout in Upper Saranac Lake. In the afternoon, go water skiing or take a relaxing boat ride on the Hackercraft while enjoying wine, cheese and crackers and watching the sunset. After dinner you will want to take a look at the stars. Its magnificient! Then listen to the call of the Loons as you drift off to sleep at night. While enjoying your stay, walk through some of the paths that have never been walked upon.
