This Saturday, August 17th, join us to celebrate the 1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣th anniversary of the beautiful Little Sable Lighthouse! 🎉

Do you know the history of Little Sable Point? Here are some fascinating facts from the Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association:

🔹Construction was completed in 1874.
🔹Originally named “Petite Pointe au Sable” (French for “little point of sand”), the name was changed to “Little Sable Point” in 1910.
🔹The tower was painted white every two years until 1977 when the Coast Guard exposed the red brick, eliminating the need for biannual maintenance.
🔹By 1902, the light station included a two-story house, a stable, a boat-landing, a brick storage building, and an access road through the dunes.
🔹The original 3rd order Fresnel lens was replaced with a 1,000-watt electric lamp in 1954 and later with a 1,250-watt bulb in 1985.
🔹In 1955, the Coast Guard demolished the keeper’s quarters as a keeper was no longer needed.
🔹SPLKA has maintained and operated LSP since 2004.

Bring the family and come celebrate a piece of history with us! 📍✨
