I am more than sure that most of you have live long enough to have seen a 48 Star USA Flag. This flag that flown during World War I is not on display - Today Only at the Tyler Coin Club - Coin Show at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center at the Rose Complex.

The admission of New Mexico and Arizona brought the number of stars to 48 and an Executive Order from President Taft gave proportions for our Flag and the layout of the stars.

This was the official Flag for 47 years, through two World Wars and the emergence of the United States of America as a world power.

Happy Birthday my Friend - KiKi Shepard!

KiKi Shepard born Chiquita Renee Shepard; July 15, 1951 is an American television host, best known as the longtime co-host of It's Showtime at the Apollo.


She is a native of Tyler, Texas. Shepard has also worked as an actress and voice actor.

L to R: Tim Jones owner of Tim Jones State Firm Insurance - Tim was the First African American Football QB at the former Robert E. Lee High School of Tyler, Texas, Mrs. Annie Flint McKnight - A Tyler woman who heard Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speak at her college more than sixty years ago still carries the message from that day.

Annie Flint McKnight said Dr. King’s 1958 speech in what is now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff continues to inspire.
“In 1958 I was 17 years old and a sophomore in college. I was just in awe because I always wanted to meet him because he was such an excellent speaker,” McKnight said.

Watermelon Kiwi and Green Grape Salad:

This refreshing and colorful salad combines juicy watermelon, tangy kiwi, and sweet green grapes for a delightful treat that's perfect for summer!

Ingredients:
3 cups watermelon, cubed
3 kiwis, peeled and sliced
2 cups green grapes
Fresh mint leaves, chopped (optional)
Juice of 1 lime
1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Instructions:
Prepare the Ingredients:
Cube the watermelon.
Peel and slice the kiwis.
Wash the green grapes.
Combine the Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine the cubed watermelon, sliced kiwis, and green grapes.
Make the Dressing:
In a small bowl, mix the lime juice and honey (if using) until well combined.

Dress the Salad:
Drizzle the lime juice mixture over the fruit salad.
Toss gently to ensure all the fruit is coated with the dressing.
Garnish:
Sprinkle with chopped fresh mint leaves for an extra burst of freshness (optional).

Serve:
Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld together.
