Just two years ago, we experienced firsthand the devastation of Hurricane Ian when one of our properties was flooded. Before that, I never fully understood how truly traumatic something like this can be for those affected. Living outside of Florida, it was easy to feel disconnected from the tragedies happening in other states. But when Ian hit, we suddenly found ourselves among the many who faced loss and destruction.
What truly left a lasting mark on me wasn’t just the damage, but the overwhelming kindness we received. I had never witnessed such a strong community of strangers, all of whom brought cleaning supplies, offered helping hands, and provided emotional support when it was needed the most. I will forever be grateful to each and every one of those kind souls who showed up, whether to physically assist or simply to offer words of comfort. Their generosity turned a time filled with tears into one with glimmers of hope.
We started the long process of remodeling just two days after Ian, and while the work was grueling, the support of those around us made all the difference. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of those who lost not only their homes but also their loved ones. Now, having been through it in some small way, my heart goes out to all who have faced such deep loss.
With Hurricane Helene now approaching Florida, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in its path. I truly hope everyone stays safe, and that they too are met with the same kind of support we were fortunate to experience 😘
