Our last two reviews for the 2023 season. Thank you all for loving our place and look forward to making it available in 2024!

My husband and I, plus another couple, spent 4 days celebrating my husband’s birthday at the Cabin, and it was perfect! The cabin is a gift in itself and it keeps on giving. The fireplace in the bedroom is to die for and the mattresses are amazing! There’s so much to see and learn about the cabin itself. The views are beautiful, the dock is perfect for throwing a line in, (it even has a glider!) hoping for catfish for dinner. My favorite way to fish was in the kayak. It’s perfect!! The hammock is so nice, next to the huge fire pit at waters edge.

Pure MAGIC!!! The time and effort that was put into building this cabin is evident the moment you open the front door. We were looking for a private stress free few days and that is exactly what we got. This has everything you could possibly need and is very relaxing and comfortable. We love it when guests leave such wonderful reviews! This is from our last guests who have stayed with us before!!

"Wonderful place to stay if you’re looking for a peaceful, outdoorsy vacation! This was our second stay at Michael’s cabin, so we knew exactly what to expect. The place was clean and inviting when we arrived, and exactly as described in the listing. We really enjoy vacationing here with our kids, who love to run and play in the water; they’re exhausted by the week’s end. There are a few pathways through the forest to explore, providing very a pleasant hiking experience when you need a break from relaxing around the campfire or paddling one of the boats out on the water. As it’s a cabin in the woods, there will be critters and bugs — sometimes inside. They aren’t intrusive and are harmless (mostly daddy long legs). We spent most of the daylight hours enjoying the outdoors (we had one rainy day on our trip that turned into a very lovely, cozy, movie-day), and appreciated the amenities inside the cabin to cook, get clean, relax, and sleep after dark. We will certainly be back!!

Fall is in the air and the perfect time to visit our secluded hideaway before we close down for the winter, or, book now for early spring before rates go up in 2023. Here are the latest reviews from our satisfied guests.

"My husband and I had an incredible time walking the gorgeous property, sitting by the lake, cooking by the fire, and laying in the hammock doing absolutely nothing at all! What a perfect place to find peace and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Not only was the cabin perfect for our needs, but the host was also responsive and very helpful throughout our stay. PS- Having never used a compost toilet myself, I was a little nervous. If you are also, please know: it was SO SIMPLE! It is not a deterrent at all from what this property has to offer."

"I cannot say enough good things about this location! Mountain seclusion, without the drive into the mountains. You are *completely* surrounded by nature, but still have creature comforts like wi-fi and electricity. The host, Michael was more than reasonable to work with; he offered us options on our check-in time given the weather was an unpredictable concern during our travels (hurricane/tropical storm). He was quick to respond with any questions asked, but also stayed clear of the property to give us the privacy and seclusion we wanted. I 100% WILL BE STAYING HERE AGAIN!!! "

"My husband and I came to this cabin for the weekend and let me tell y’all…. We did NOT want to leave! We tried thinking of how we could talk them into letting us stay forever! LOL We have stayed in a lot of cabins and this has by far been the BEST one yet. When we walked in it felt like we went back in time. We love going to antique places everywhere so all the different antique pieces in the cabin was very cool! The private pond was awesome!! We caught around 20 fish! Such a beautiful and quiet place! And very sweet hosts!!! We will definitely be back 😊"

We just had to share our latest review and some photos from a happy customer!!

Wow, where do i start! It is just as the host described it! It was a very muchhhh needed 4 day vacation/fishing trip with my S/O. The rustic cabin was everything and more. The fishing is incredible! We seen 2 huge catfish and a smaller one. We caught and released small and large bass and bream. It is definitely a place to unplug from the world and spend quality time with family or friends. As the host stated if you dont like outdoor animals.. spiders, snakes etc this probably aint the place for you. We did not see any snakes our whole trip, few spiders but the same ones youd see at home. The birds and crickets and just the peace and quiet sound of nature is so soothing. If you need a gas station there is one right down the road and they have a lot of any missed needs you may have forgotten, they are nice along with the riverwinds landing (bait store) staff they are very nice as well! The bed sets and towels smell amazing, just as they would at home. Pretty much this place feels like home away from home! I highly recommend this rental to all outdoor lovers !!!

We restored the roof of the porch this spring with locally acquired sawmill wood and it is looking better than ever! This summer is really heating up with folks enjoying the cabin.

“We drove 4 hours to spend a 3-nite weekend at this primitive, yet comfy cabin and it was well worth the drive. It made for a perfect little getaway, with complete privacy at the end of a mile-long joyride down the driveway, lol. We spent a lot of time canoeing around the 10-acre lake, fishing and just listening to the tranquil sounds of nature as we watched the resident eagle soar overhead and the beaver splashing and swimming around us. Plenty of fish available for good eating! Mornings were spent with coffee as we cuddled and watched the sunrise and the mist floating across the water. We even took a small hike among the trees and didn't get lost, ha. The 4-generation history, the architecture and décor choices of the cabin gave it a real authenticity. The beds were dreamy and all the needed amenities were there for a comfortable stay. This is a great place to come and get away from all the cares of this world and enjoy the peace and quiet of God's creation. Highly recommend!”

Another happy customer!!!

““We were blown away by this place! I was wanting a secluded getaway on a lake for my family of 6. That’s a tall order in the south where there are fewer lakes and lots of houses close together. When I found Michael’s place I was so excited. It seemed like a perfect fit and it was. Upon arrival, my husband called it, “spectacularly unique”. My 10yo exclaimed that this was the best adventure ever and that I was the best mom ever. Before booking my husband had a few reservations, so in case you are like him let me put those concerns to rest. 1. Worried about the heat- there is so much shade including a porch that is shaded almost all day in the summer minus some early morning sun. The air conditioning works well. We were never too hot. 2. Bugs- I cant explain it but the bugs weren’t bad. There were citronella candles provided, but even without those there just weren’t a lot of bugs biting. I also brought a mosquito net to attach to our sun canopy. I did not need either item. 3. The quality of swimming in a small lake- the lake was warm on top but cooler under the surface. It was shallow for a while and then got much deeper making it perfect for all ages. We were in the water all day everyday. 4. Overall comfort- we were so incredibly comfortable and relaxed. I felt more at peace than I have in a long time. The kids felt it too and it showed. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. This place is rustic. The stairs are steep and treads are narrow. The floor is uneven in places. For us, this added to the charm. It felt like we were staying in a living history museum. The canoe and paddle boat were so much fun. We brought our own life jackets but there were some provided. We caught minnows and did a little fishing. We had the pleasure of meeting Michael on our last day and I was grateful to be able to thank him in person for sharing his beautiful, unique property with us. We are already choosing dates for our next stay.”

“Pictures do not do this property justice, it is so beautiful. This lovely cabin in the woods is secluded and very private, full of all the amenities you could possibly need and we booked two more dates before we even checked out! The lake is clean and wonderful for fishing, floating and swimming. The bed was so comfy with crisp clean linens and really nice pillows. It is the perfect combination of old meets new with historic beauty and modern conveniences. Michael and Anya went above and beyond to ensure our stay was everything we were hoping for. Make sure you fill out the release to use the watercraft on site, it was an extra special touch for our visit!”

What our last guest had to say about their stay! We love having a place that makes people so happy!!

“This was the most amazing few days! We left the outside world behind as we traveled down the winding dirt road to the cabin. Lake was breath taking! Cabin was like living in my favorite antique store!! My son not only had a great experience fishing but enjoyed taking out the pontoon and canoe. I spent the days floating peacefully in the middle of the lake. We didn’t have to worry about boaters or neighbors ...we were alone....which just doesn’t happen often these days! We grilled out each night (the kitchen is well stocked and has modern appliances) then enjoyed WiFi and a great TV setup inside. The cabin is decked out with lights around the porch and the porch swing became our favorite place. This is a trip that both my son and myself will always remember. A true log cabin...wooden floors, antiques, wonderful sleeping beds, each nook and cranny had something wonderful to explore. Thanks, Michael...we will be back!!!!”

Wanted to share the calendar for June and July and let everyone know that it is booking fast! The light gray days are the only ones available!! August is still wide open! The last guests to stay had a wonderful time fishing and catching Bass, Crappie and Bream! Growing up, my favorite fish to catch was catfish! No one has fished for them yet!!

Thankful for all the wonderful guests who have been the first to come and stay at our cabin on the pond! We are starting to get more reservations but there are still dates available this summer and fall. Come and experience what history and nature can deliver.

Wanted to share the indoor bathroom with a shower, sink and composting toilet. Amazing how easy these toilets are to use and, due to a very efficient fan system, there is absolutely no smell in the cabin.

I have mentioned that the two story cabin was built by Abram Moore. However, we also utilized some material from several other historic houses that had been demolished and we saved what was left. The Frederick Boozer cabin was built in 1780 and stood three miles west of Prosperity. I used the logs to fill in the gaps between the windows. I am most proud of the beaded ceiling joists.

The cabin being disambled on its original location. It was the home of Abraham Moore constructed in the 1820s. It was located on Bachman Chapel Road 4 miles north of Prosperity. It was unfortunate we could take the chimney but it still stands on the original site. These photos were taken in the summer of 1994. I hope to find the photos of how it originally looked with the original clapboard and old roof ...but they are yet to turn up!
