Got the invite to run around in the 🇫🇷 and 🇮🇹 hills for a few days with the man, the myth, the legend
Option A, B, nor C came to fruition due to rain and snow, but it was all smiles to pick up where we left off last year threading the needle 🪡 between precipitation, staying dry, and making speedy ascents of the Gran Paradiso and Aiguille du Peigne with the father/son cardio machine duo and

fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative

We all experience inspiration day to day, week to week, or year to year. In our work, our play, our education, our family, our friends, our community, our craft, and so on. Most of the 2nd chapter of my life has been motivated by my passions… for experience, mountains, connection, music, adventure, surf, movement, fitness, travel, and culture. The antagonist to the active portion of these being inability due to injury, fatigue, and age.

My August began alongside Lynn Purser a climber from Alabama and our mutual roots to the southern Appalachian mountains. We climbed, scrambled, and trekked our way through the hills above Chamonix together for a week. Lynn was acclimating and training for his upcoming climb on the Horn. I was just enjoying the expressions and humor from other parties as Lynn passed climbers a fraction of his age with ease. At the same time, I was inspired. Motivated to keep pursuing my passions when I’m twice my age with Lynn’s zeal and drive.

An object (or body) in motion stays in motion.

Sharing all that is Suisse with Tom and Kirsten to wrap up the month of July… alpine vistas, knife-edge ridges, glacial valleys, friendly ponies, new friends, and beautiful huts. A week to remember for this awesome Detroit couple!

Endre and I met in 2014 when we were both involved in a rescue on Mount Hood. He as a member of Portland Mountain Rescue and myself, a companion to the injured that day.

Fortunately, this social media thing does have a few good characteristics, one being the ability to stay connected with friends from life’s past. Last year, Endre reached out and we made plans to climb the Matterhorn. After a precipitous season and delayed ‘opening’ due to conditions, alignment allowed for a summit and return to the Hornlihutte in good form.

Afterwards, Endre joined his wife and daughters continuing their journey to Paris for the Olympics. And me, back to Chamonix after a burger in Zermatt… until my return for 3 more Horns this season! 🏔️

Just wrapped up 8 days climbing world class terrain with Constantine. Our menu consisted of appetizers, entrees, and dessert as we made our way through the Mont Blanc massif, Tour glacier, Brevent, France, and even Italy on rock, snow, and ice.
