So yesterday I shared my honest pros and cons list about the MSC Meraviglia. It may have seemed that the bad outweighed the good however, I would like to give them another try. MSC offers a yacht club experience that I think might make a huge difference. I was also seasick the entire trip and didn’t get to experience everything.

I do think that the ship is a good choice for couples seeking a romantic getaway, a girls trip, or even for an older retired couple. I heard from a lot of passengers that their teens were bored so I’m hesitant to suggest it for families.

I’m back from my very first MSC cruise on the Meraviglia out of New York City. It was 8 nights and included 4 sea days and stops in Miami, their private island Ocean Cay, and Nassau.

In full disclosure I was allowed to sail with MSC free of charge. I was only responsible for taxes, fees, tips, and any excursions or onboard purchases.

The good:

The ship is gorgeous.
The staff and crew were very friendly and helpful.
The entertainment was the best I’ve ever seen on a cruise.
There were plenty of daily activities to choose from.
Ocean Cay was wonderful and truly relaxing.
There were so many visitors from other countries and it made for great conversations.

The bad:

The food was not the best especially the buffet.
The ship was fully booked and it showed. There was a wait for everything and no organization or queues in the buffet.
Communication was terrible. We were moved to a different table in the main dining room the second night (not by our request) and it caused so much confusion with the staff.
The airport to port transport was a mess. MSC couldn’t tell me where to go to meet the bus. Once we found it, the shuttle was so delayed that we were some of the very last guests onboard.
Dinner service took two hours.

I’ll post more later in the week once I get back into my routine.

I embark on my first MSC cruise Sunday and I thought this is fitting for Travel Tip Friday. Many cruise lines require that you print out your own luggage labels. They suggest that you staple or tape some together but that’s not very sturdy. Your luggage will be in a sea of other suitcases being loaded onto the ship, so you certainly don’t want that tag to get lost. Amazon sells these inexpensive cruise luggage tag holders. You’ll want to look for ones that fit the tags your line uses. They come with metal loops that attach them.

I’m 17 days away from my first MSC cruise! We’re checked in ✅, our birth certificates are in our travel portfolio ✅, and we’ve booked our excursions✅. I’ve started planning my outfits for the onboard theme nights: gala, white party, and tropical! We’re taking MSC’s shuttle from the airport for embarkation day since there’s a marathon that morning. We’re still hoping that MSC might offer a NYC tour with an airport transfer after the cruise. They’re currently sold out.

I shared recently that I’m going on a MSC cruise in November. Today is the 30 day mark so I was able to check in. Here are my impressions so far!

Cons:
Their website is buggy and can be difficult to navigate. They also could stand to streamline some of their processes. I purchased their transportation and was prompted to send them an email with my flight info (even though they ask for it with my booking). I received a response stating they can’t accept my flight info via email and will need to call. So that’s frustrating!

Specialty dining reservations can only be booked onboard.

Some of their shows cost extra.

Their excursion options seem limited.

Pros:
Their app has check in capabilities and you can purchase excursions and other extras right through it!

They offered an opportunity to bid on an upgrade to the Yacht Club which is a great opportunity if you get a good deal.

They have multiple drink package options and they can be used on their private island.

Travel Tip Friday: make a trip countdown. When my daughter was younger counting the days until vacation was a huge part of the fun. You can get crafty and make one or download one of the many free countdown apps.
