I got out on Joe Pool with Sean and Cory for an afternoon/evening of fishing.
They were in town for business and had just enough time to get in some time on the lake. This was our second time together and I know that Sean is a hardcore fly fisherman and I knew that he would not put it down… no matter what!
The wind was blowing at 15-20 mph and the fish were settling in about 12-16’. Definitely not good for slinging a fly. He fished hard all day and managed to snag a couple of fish.
Cory caught the big fish that weighed 4.3 and ended up with a half dozen or so bass.
The best catch of the day was a 12 pound catfish that Cory caught on a Texas-rigged Senko. It was an epic battle.😊
The fishing was pretty tough but these guys never stopped casting and had a great attitude all day. I truly enjoyed spending time with them both and look forward to the next time they’re in town.
Thanks again guys!!!

Dr. Ken and myself had a great morning on Joe Pool. The weather was almost perfect (minus a stiff breeze) but the fish were very hard to come by.
I had dreamed of the week before when the bass were huge and plentiful. Every day is different and the bite was super slow for us.
We were able to scrounge up a few decent ones and a couple of crappies (on a Texas-rigged Senko!!) to go along with our handful of d***s.
Ken is a “hoot” to be around and I’m sure that we will get together again soon for another adventure!😊

Okay…
I know it looks like a photo drop, but these pictures were taken this morning between 7:00 am and 12:30. Today was one of the best days that I’ve ever had bass fishing.
I met up with J.D. and Landan this morning with high hopes of a big fish. The time of year and conditions were perfect. J.D. caught a solid 3-4 pounder on the first cast. After that, we weighed all but 3 of our 18 fish. It was amazing!
Landan caught his PB (personal best) at 6.0 pounds along with several 3-5+ pounders.
J.D. was keeping up with Landan and landed several more of similar weight.
When I thought it couldn’t get any better, we moved across the lake and J.D. caught his P.B. On the first cast. A 9.3 pound monster!!!
(I know the scale shows 9.2 in the pic… but it was resting on 9.3 before he posed for the shot) 😊
We moved again and the bite slowed down, but we caught a few more nice fish.
J.D. ended the trip the same way it started by catching another 3-4 pound fish on his last cast!

I am glad that I got to share this truly special day with two of the most grateful and fun people that I’ve had on my boat.
Congratulations to them both on setting new personal records.

Thanks again guys!! I can’t wait till our next outing😊

I had another great morning on Joe Pool with my friends Chris and Ken. The weather was PERFECT for a springtime slugfest. Cloudy, breezy and 65 degree water. 😊 The bite was very strange. A lot of short strikes and barely-hooked fish.
We ended up with a dozen or so small fish and a couple of decent females. These guys never stopped casting and giving it their best. I look forward to seeing them again next week. We’re gonna get an 8 or better in the boat.
To be continued…

I got out on Joe Pool with my friend Dan last week. The day started out in the mid 40’s and I definitely had to rustle up another layer to keep warm. We were catching fish pretty much every stop we made in the early morning and our best two went 4.5 and 6.5 pounds.
Not the monsters that we had in mind, but still a great day on the water.
Dan left around 2:00pm and I stayed out for another 5 hours. I should have left when he did because the bite we had shut down and I could not get it back.😊
Thanks again to my buddy Dan. We will be on a different lake on April 8 to get on that “solar eclipse bite”😂

I had the pleasure of taking out two guys who have been friends since childhood. Chris and Ken are a hoot to be around and always bring the jokes!
Joe Pool didn’t give up a monster, but we did catch a dozen or so decent-sized fish. Chris landed the best one (4.2 lbs) before he decided to go for a swim. Well actually he just fell off the boat when I made a sharp turn with the trolling motor. 😬
He climbed back into the boat and kept on fishing. We all were wet and cold from the constant drizzle, but nobody wanted to call it a day. We finished our time together with the sun on our faces and a fun memory that I hope doesn’t happen again in my boat.
By the way, if you look closely, you can see Ken’s “grill”… pretty cool!😂

Well it was not the “slugfest” that I expected with the great weather we had, but we did manage to catch a dozen or so that had moved up. Tyler and Jessie are in town from Minnesota for business and wanted to catch a Texas-sized largemouth. That didn’t happen 😕
It wasn’t because they didn’t possess the skills to do so. Tyler is a seasoned tournament fisherman and Jessie could definitely hold his own.
The big bite just did not happen but we did have a great morning of fishing. I hope that we can get together the next time they are in town and seal the deal on a trophy.
Thanks for letting me share the morning with you. I appreciate your patience and positive attitude.
Thanks again!

I recently had the pleasure of spending the morning with Emily and Troy on Joe Pool Lake. They were in town from Idaho for a wedding and are both avid fisherman and fisherwoman? (Not sure… you know what I mean)
Anyway, the weather was great!! Light wind, clouds… beautiful. I caught a decent little fish on the first cast when I was demonstrating the technique. That may have been bad luck. The bite was pretty tough. We caught fish, but definitely not what I expected for the conditions.
We had several fish that didn’t make it to the boat. Troy and Emily were fishing exactly how I asked them to and I was constantly checking the hooks for sharpness but we all had issues landing fish. They never complained or stopped fishing and I was more than impressed with their positive attitude.
Even though we didn’t catch a lot of fish, I really enjoyed the morning and had a great time. I hope that we can get together again the next time they’re in town. Thanks again!😊

I finally got back out on Joe Pool for an afternoon with J. D. and Landan. Our first trip was days before young Landan was scheduled to have surgery on his hand. He also had his arm “repaired” due to a baseball injury and is currently in physical therapy. All this to say that he was healed enough and really excited to get out and catch a big one! This guy can fish!!
Mr. J. D. is Landan’s “Big Brother” sponsor and is truly a class act. I realized instantly that his only concern on our trip was that Landan enjoyed the afternoon.
We definitely didn’t catch any big ones and we had a few slow periods with little activity, but both guys stayed positive and kept fighting. We probably caught a dozen or so small fish but I just couldn’t figure out how to get a big one to bite. We ended the trip on a positive note with a “flurry” of small fish (of course they always seem to bite like crazy when the day is ending🙄) and it was hard to stop. We’ll have to get em
next time.
I truly enjoyed the time we had together and I hope that we can get together again soon.
Thank you both!!😊

We’ll I did it again. I got WAY behind on my posts and I don’t have a good excuse… just been fishing too much!!
I’m gonna try to catch up with some pics from recent outings and I apologize in advance if I miss anyone.
Thanks again to everyone who has allowed me to share some time on the lake with you!
Summer is slowly creeping up but the fish are still “acting right” for the most part and the bite can be awesome with the right weather conditions.😊

I should have finished up my “chores” yesterday afternoon… but my awesome wife Denise Robertson told me that I should get out and check on the evening bite.
Yard work or fish? Well she didn’t have to twist my arm for sure!
I got on the lake around 2:00 and planned to fish till sunset. I ran into a guy at the ramp that was leaving and gently pressed him for information. He had not had a great morning and I see him on the lake quite a bit.
With my expectations lowered, I headed to my first spot and hooked up fairly quickly. Decent fish but I couldn’t get another one in the area. I relocated and caught a 5+ on my first cast! I sat in one spot for 2 hours and caught several fish… none were under 2 pounds.
The bite died and I made one more move. First cast I landed a 7.8. I set up for pics and Instagram and let her go.
Three casts later I catch a 8.4 in the same spot!
I made a few more casts and decided that I should probably just leave them alone for another day. I think I might get that yard work done and check in on em again?

I snuck down to Fairfield Lake with Dan and Mike this weekend for a chilly day of bass fishing. It's a 2-hour drive to the lake so we met up at 4:15 and hit the road. It was 30 degrees when we arrived but the water was a balmy 64. A light wind and light cloud cover made the cold temps bearable. the bite was a little tougher than we expected from this lake. Dan struck first with a Texas-rigged senko. Mike and I were trying different "moving" baits and looking for a reaction strike. Mike figured out the jerkbait bite fairly early and stuck with it for most of the day and definitely caught the most fish.
Dan and I stuck with the soft plastics and caught our share throughout the day. The fish turned on right as the sun went down for one last round before we packed it in.
As usual, it was a good time with my buddies. I always enjoy our time together. I hope we can get in a trip or two this winter before the spawn.
Thanks again guys!

I recently had an afternoon trip on Joe Pool Lake with J. D. and Landon. J. D. and his wife are in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters youth mentoring program. J. D.'s "little brother" Landon was scheduled to have surgery and wanted to get out for a fishing trip beforehand. This would be the first outing in my new boat and I was more than excited to get to "show it off". 😂
The weather was great and we caught some fish, but that wasn't really what this trip was about. Sometimes (but rarely) catching fish is ONLY what the trip is about. This trip was about Landon having a good time. I knew instantly that J. D. was there for Landon and not for himself. Landon was awesome! Fun and eager to learn. He was patient and appreciative beyond his years and really was skilled at fishing. J. D. was very laid back and a pleasure to be around as well.
I only wish that every time that I go out could be this much fun!
Thanks again J. D. and Landon for being such great guests. I pray for a speedy recovery for Landon and I hope to see y’all again soon.

I spent a beautiful fall morning on Joe Pool with my buddy Cayl with big as Big as Dallas Bass Fishing Company and Kirk with Armstrong Outfitters Tackle. I am a big fan of Kirk’s vibrating jigs, squarebill cranks and soft plastics and it was awesome to get to see how he fishes. I love to drag a soft plastic, that’s how I like to fish and it has served me well over the years. But sometimes you have to speed it up and get it off the bottom to get em to bite. Kirk guided for 20+ years and now he is laser focused on producing the most realistic, quality baits that mimic what the bass are feeding on.
I was truly impressed to see him catch fish with a bait that I would not have considered at this time of year on “my” body of water.
Every time I get out on the lake, I learn something new. This day was truly better than others.😊
Thanks again to my friend Cayl ”THE HAMMER”
Earnshaw for making this trip happen.

My buddy Cayle with Big as Big as Dallas Bass Fishing Company took me out on Eagle Mountain for a little “physical therapy” this week. I’m still limited to 5 pounds on my right arm so I used both to land the better fish.😊
I should be back to guiding in a month or so, but I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to get out on the boat with my buddy and try out some of his new Armstrong Outfitters Tackle and roboworm’s.
Even in the 100+ degree heat, he put me on em!
Thanks again brother. I truly appreciate you and I can’t wait till we can do it again!!
