As wineries bring in the last of their fruit for the harvest season, they'll be transferring from the crush pads and into the cellars to begin fermentation.

Please join us in celebrating Susan Sokol Blosser's recent History Makers recognition from the Oregon Historical Society! 🎉

Each year, the Oregon Historical Society honors living leaders and organizations that are making history through scientific discovery and exploration; innovations in business, communications, and the arts; or service in their communities.

As many of us know, Susan is an icon in the Oregon wine industry. Her leadership helped elevate Oregon wines to global renown while trailblazing certifications for green buildings and healthy soils. She also founded the Yamhill Enrichment Society, which brings music and literacy to local children.

A pathbreaking entrepreneur, Susan Sokol Blosser co-founded Sokol Blosser Winery in 1971, managing the vineyards before serving as president until 2008.

Let's talk about the harvest night shift. For some, it’s beyond their control. Logistical mixups or over-demand can lead to awkward fruit picking times, sometimes well after the sun has set. The tractor high beams light up, the crew throws on an extra layer and while the masses are sleeping, the beginning of another vintage is trimmed from the vine.

For others, it’s quite intentional. Harvesting by night offers an array of attractive qualities, from chilly clusters to getting an early jump on the day’s winemaking duties.

While the Pinot Noirs maintain top billing on the marquee that says Willamette Valley, these splendid white wines continue to show why they deserve ‘headliner’ status."

Community ❤️

In some wine regions, competition is fierce and tensions can be high. But in the Willamette Valley, you’re much more likely to find winemakers and wine country folks collaborating whether on a technical tasting, special events, problem-solving, and even sharing equipment. We’re a vast region, but we’re also a close community, and we take care of each other.

Yesterday we gathered with our members at the beautiful Balsall Creek for an end-of-summer celebration. We laughed, sipped wine, and enjoyed amazing wood-fired pizza from Wooden Heart Kitchen!

On Monday, we hosted our first member Marketing Boot Camp! We had a powerhouse of guest speakers and panelists covering everything from market trends, research finds, social media, website, branding, email marketing, adding unexpected value, collaborations and community, and leveraging AI tools.

The event sold out with 90 attendees and representation from 41 wineries, and we are excited to provide more educational sessions for our membership!

Our trade-only Auction returns for its 8th year and is taking place this week!

At this event, influencers in the wine trade get to experience what makes Oregon remarkable, exemplified in unique expressions of Pinot noir and Chardonnay from the region’s top wineries. Our trade-only auction honors the collaborative spirit of the Willamette Valley and offers industry influencers a series of special tastings and gatherings. It all culminates in a live auction of exclusive, one-of-a-kind Pinot noir and Chardonnay. This year, we have an incredible lineup of 81 lots: 71 Pinot noirs and 10 Chardonnays from the special 2022 vintage.

Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting 264 'campers' from around the world for our 23rd annual Oregon Pinot Camp! 🍷🍇

This event brings some of the most influential and diverse restaurant and retail wine buyers to Oregon for a series of collaborative educational and social events designed to create an emotional link to our vineyards, wines and terroir, promoting lifelong advocacy.

Thank you to the 52 participating wineries and 100+ volunteers, committee members, staff, panelists, catering teams, vendors, and everyone else who helped make this year’s OPC a roaring success! 🫶
