ANYWHERE TRAVEL SERVICE is bringing you up-to-date on Pittsburgh’s new 700,000 sq ft airport terminal. Architects describe it as a pavilion in the middle of a forest with spaces that include green features and natural light that give a feeling of being tied to a community on both the land side and air side. Technological versatility is allowing for tomorrow but including rainwater harvesting, on-site natural gas, and a solar-powered microgrid which is powering the existing terminal today. Four terraces are slated to take up 90,000 square feet. Fiber wiring being used offers more bandwidth than copper. Pittsburgh’s new airport is the first U.S. terminal to be built from the ground up since the beginning of the pandemic and is set to open in 2025.

Halloween comes from the old festival of Samhain, which was celebrated in Ireland and Scotland to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. The boundary between the earthly world and the Otherworld was believed to be more porous so spirits roamed the earth. "Trick or treat" might be derived from the old custom of appeasing a household's ancestral ghosts with offerings of food placed by the fire. Trick-or-treaters have been going from house to house since the 1500s in disguise called "guising" which was practiced throughout Ireland and Scotland.
In medieval England, “souling" tradition was where poor people called on homes of the wealthy for a shortbread-like "soul cake." The recipient would in exchange promise to pray for all the souls of the homeowner's ancestors and beloved dead relatives.
The original Jack O'Lanterns were carved from root vegetables such as turnips. Samples that survived can be seen in the Museum of Country Life in County Mayo, Ireland and are gruesome and frightening. The story of the Jack O'Lantern comes from an Irish folktale about Stingy Jack who invited the devil for a drink. When Jack died, God didn't want him in heaven and the devil wouldn't take him either, so Jack set off wandering the earth with a piece of coal in a carved-out turnip to light the way.

ANYWHERE TRAVEL SERVICE reporting cruise ships must make at least one practice run before resuming regular sailings in U.S. waters. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released final guidelines for trial sailings before resuming passenger voyages. Cruise lines are required to apply for a COVID-19 conditional sailing certificate. Each practice cruise will run between 2 to 7 days and must have enough passengers to meet at least 10% ship’s capacity. The ship’s operator must tell passengers they are simulating untested safety measures as stated by CDC guidelines. Passengers must be examined for COVID-19 symptoms before the trip and at least 75% must be tested at the end. Restrictions on board will include face masks and social distancing. The CDC will allow guided shore excursions if tour operators follow standards.
