PUBLIC SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY!
Our “While You Were Sleeping initiative” is a proactive program where our deputies identify security concerns and educate the community. “Protecting our neighborhoods is a shared responsibility. Secure your home and vehicle, and look out for your neighbors. Together, we can build a safer, stronger community,” said Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony.
Here are a few tips to help deter crime in your neighborhood:
- Do not leave valuables or keys inside your vehicle.
- Always lock the windows and doors of your home and vehicle.
- Remember to close your garage door.
- Install motion-activated lights around your property.
- Invest in alarm and surveillance systems.
- Follow the 2 ft/6 ft rule - Trim shrubbery in front of windows higher than 2 feet and no tree branches below 6 ft.
- Build a strong community network with your neighbors to help watch each other’s property while you’re away.
Report suspicious activity immediately to BSO’s non-emergency number at 954-764-HELP (4357).

It took 109 years, but we are finally here. BSO’s state-of-the-art Research, Development and Training Center (R.D.T.C.) opens its doors.
Every aspect of the R.D.T.C. is specifically designed to enhance first responders’ training and preparedness. The facility features specialized training rooms, simulation labs, tactical firing ranges, a customizable shoot house, and a defensive tactics room all designed to replicate real-world scenarios and hone critical decision-making skills and tactical readiness.
While the R.D.T.C. represents innovation and progress, our mission remains focused on the safety and protection of the Broward County community. “The first thing one sees as they walk into the lobby is a somber memorial to the 17 victims of the Parkland mass shooting," Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said. "This serves as a reminder of why we were called into this profession and why we must always strive to do better and continue to push beyond our limits.”

DUI Enforcement
The Independence Day holiday is a day for family and friends to get together and enjoy patriotic celebrations, food, and fireworks. To keep Broward County’s roads safe, the Broward Sheriff’s Office D.U.I. Task Force will conduct a high visibility saturation and enforcement operation over the holiday.
The operation will occur daily from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 to Saturday, July 6. It will take place throughout Broward County.
The operation’s goal is to catch impaired drivers who pose an immediate danger to the public and to cite traffic violators.
Use a ride-sharing service if you plan on drinking alcohol and don’t have a designated driver. Remember to always drive safe and sober!
