Sorry to anyone traveling, this won’t change for awhile!!

🛑🚧 MACKINAC BRIDGE CLOSED INDEFINITELY 🚧🛑

If you have plans the next few days to visit the Macinac Bridge or the Upper Peninsula you will need to adjust your plans if you want to use the Mackinac Bridge.

Mackinac Bridge Authority has announced the bridge will be closed indefinitely with no idea when it will reopen due to falling ice from last weekends ice storm. They are also urging people from both sides of the bridge to stay away so bridge work crews can complete thier work.

Once we know of a reopening time we will be sure to pass it along to you.

*UPDATE*

Apparently there is a uproar over the word indefinitely. Some people think that it means forever, that is not the webster definition but we recognize thats what some people have taken it to mean that . In this case the bridge is closed due ice and unsafe conditions and will remain so until the Mackinac Bridge Authority deems it safe for travel. Once it is open we will make a future post. The mighty mac is a fixture in Michigan it would take a little more then falling ice to take out our great state treasure be closed forever.

Okay, reopened…

Update: the bridge reopened at 5:30PM. There may still be other closings.

The Mackinac Bridge is now closed due to falling ice. The final vehicles on the bridge are coming off at this time.

The Mackinac Bridge has closed due to falling ice 28 times since 1995, for an average duration of roughly five hours per closure.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they say a 61-year-old man from lower Michigan’s Edwardsburg was found unresponsive and pronounced dead.

~Blizzard Forecast Tuesday Afternoon-Wednesday~

A blizzard is expected to bring near-impossible travel conditions at times Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. Widespread rain will turn to heavy snow from west to east tomorrow and Wednesday. Rain will turn to snow along and west of the Missouri River before midnight Tuesday night and east after midnight tomorrow night. Snowfall rates will near 2" an hour at times from portions of IA to portions of WI. Combining intense snowfall rates and wind gusts between 55 and 70 MPH will cause blizzard conditions for 12-18 hours.

The heaviest totals will be from southwest IA up to the western U.P. with amounts of 5" or greater. A rather sharp cutoff is expected on the eastern edge as it will be warmer, but convective precipitation also decreases. We will have an updated snowfall forecast if needed tomorrow morning.
