Happy Fourth of July from Beautiful St. Augustine, FL!
There's no better place to celebrate Independence Day than in the nation's oldest city. From historic landmarks to stunning beaches, St. Augustine has it all! On the Fourth, we have the perfect blend of history, patriotism, and spectacular festivities.
Schedule:
• 6 PM: All-Star Orchestra two-hour concert at the Plaza de la Constitución. This concert is free. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
• 9:30 PM: Fireworks over the Matanzas Bay – a breathtaking presentation of one of the biggest and best fireworks displays over the historic bayfront and the Castillo de San Marcos featuring 5,000 individual shells exploding as high as 2,000 and as low as 100 feet.
• Be aware that road closures will begin at 8:00 PM and end at 11 PM, so it is important to be in place early. The best vantage points are on the Bridge of Lions and the Castillo de San Marcos.
Parking
• The downtown parking garage at the Visitor Information Center offers all-day parking for $20.00 per vehicle. It's $3.00 for those using ParkStAug - St. Johns County resident discount.
• Parking in city-owned lots and on-street is FREE on July 4th, as it is on all national holidays. It's up to each driver to confirm they are in a city-owned lot.
• The parking lot at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument is not a city lot and is not free on holidays. Access to the Castillo's parking lot is restricted from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. on July 4th.
• Other privately owned lots will also charge for the day.
• Street parking will be limited in the vicinity of the Plaza to facilitate traffic detours in the evening.
• The City of St. Augustine encourages visitors staying close to the downtown area to use bicycles.
• There will be shuttles from various locations as well. You can search online for these.

After the display, don't miss the chance to explore our charming streets, historic downtown pubs, and restaurants.

Wishing everyone a fun, safe, and memorable Fourth of July!

Happy Flag Day!
Did you know that St. Augustine, the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the continental United States, has flown multiple flags throughout its rich history? Each flag tells a unique story of the city's diverse heritage and cultural evolution.
1. Spanish Flag (1565-1763)
2. British Flag (1763-1784)
3. Spanish Flag (1784-1821)
4. United States Flag (1821-1861)
5. Confederate Flag (1861-1862)
6. United States Flag (1862-Present)

After the Civil War, St. Augustine was restored to Union control. Since then, the American flag has flown proudly, symbolizing unity and resilience.
Today, in our historic town and the United States, we celebrate the symbol of our freedom, unity, and national pride – the American flag! On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. Each stripe and star holds a story, representing the 13 original colonies and the 50 states of our great nation.
As we honor this day, let's reflect on what the flag represents: liberty, justice, and the enduring spirit of the American people. Whether flying high on a pole, displayed in our homes, or worn on our hearts, the flag is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and freedoms we cherish.
Please take a moment today to appreciate the flag and all it stands for!

We hope you had a great St. Patrick's Day!

While St. Patrick’s Day is now associated with wearing green, parades, and beer, the holiday is grounded in history that dates back more than 1,500 years. The earliest known celebrations were held in the 17th century on March 17, marking the anniversary of the death of St. Patrick in the 5th century. Here are some interesting facts about St. Patrick and the holiday.
1. The Real St. Patrick Was Born in Britain - At age 16 he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and sold as a slave to a Celtic priest in the area now known as Northern Ireland. After toiling for six years as a shepherd, he escaped back to Britain. He eventually returned to Ireland as a Christian missionary.
2. St. Patrick Was Never Canonized - Despite his status as a patron saint, St. Patrick was never canonized by the Church during his lifetime.
3. There Were No Snakes Around for St. Patrick to Banish from Ireland
4. Leprechauns Are Likely Based on Celtic Fairies
5. The Shamrock Was Considered a Sacred Plant -According to legend, St. Patrick used the plant as a visual guide when explaining the Holy Trinity. By the 17th century, the shamrock had become a symbol of emerging Irish nationalism.
6. Ireland’s Only Female Patron Saint, Brigid, Has Her Own Holiday
7. The First St. Patrick’s Day Parade Was Held in America
While people in Ireland have celebrated St. Patrick since the 1600s, the tradition of a St. Patrick’s Day parade began in America and predates the founding of the United States.
8. The Irish Were Once Scorned in America - Due to the devastating potato blight in 1845 that caused widespread hunger in Ireland, about 1 million perished and another 2 million immigrated to other countries with 25% of those immigrants coming to America. Once they arrived, the Irish refugees were looked down upon as disease-ridden, unskilled, and a drain on welfare budgets.
9. Corned Beef and Cabbage Was an American Innovation
