In conjunction with the exhibition “It’s Just the Desert” on view at the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve’s Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center, artist Robin Rosenthal will lead a workshop using the 19th century cyanotype process to make sun prints of botanical specimens from our local desert shrubs and wildflowers. 🌵🌼
Supplies will be provided. However, if participants would like to get a head start they can bring pressings of local desert flora. Flatness is important, so stems, leaves and flowers can be pressed flat under heavy books or bricks beforehand. Please keep in mind the paper size we’ll be working with is 5x7, pre-treated with a photo-sensitive coating.
Take advantage of our springtime flowering and share some postcards from the desert! 12+ up. Link in our bio

Workshop 1 - Gouache Plein Air Painting - Wednesday, March 27, 2-4pm

🎨 This art workshop will cover plein air painting techniques in gouache. Plein air painting is the act of painting outside from direct observation of the landscape. There is something magical that happens when you sit in one place for a time, observe, and paint that place. The cotton tail rabbits stop noticing you and come out to explore. Lizards come out to sun themselves in the open. Crows carry on with their clicking conversations. For this workshop Chloe Allred will demonstrate a variety of painting techniques in gouache and participants will discover beautiful areas in the preserve to make paintings from. Limited spots available - reserve yours now on our Eventbrite! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/workshop-i-gouache-plein-air-painting-with-chloe-allred-tickets-872235779697?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

🎨 About the Exhibition:
Robin Rosenthal, a driving force behind creative place-keeping projects, explores local identity and nurtures social connections. "It's Just a Desert" is a profound response to the common justification for the desecration of the Western Mojave corner. Using the 19th-century cyanotype process, Rosenthal skillfully crafts photograms that embody the dualities and contradictions of the desert environment.

Join us for the third installment of the Robin Raznick Workshop Series, where creativity and nature converge in "The Insected and Mixed Material Bug Art." This exciting workshop promises a unique exploration into the world of insects and arachnids as a boundless source of artistic inspiration.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Nisani from the Antelope Valley College, who will enlighten us with an insightful presentation on insects and arachnids. Gain a deeper understanding of these fascinating creatures and discover how their intricate features can fuel your artistic imagination.

Building on the foundation laid in our first workshop, participants will continue to work on their scrapbooks. The theme of mixed materials will be explored, encouraging participants to incorporate various textures, colors, and elements into their bug-inspired creations. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, this workshop offers a welcoming space for artistic expression and experimentation.
