Its True! Several aligators have been rescued in NY in the last 5 years!!
Let us not forget the OG aligator in a Harlem sewer (1935) which eventually resulted in Aligator in a Sewer day here in NYC (February 9) - this poor skinny fellow also captured in February…

The four-foot-long alligator, now being evaluated at the Bronx Zoo, is presumed to have been abandoned by someone who kept it as a pet.
