Trailridge Road closed for the year today. RMNP will remain open through the Winter. The first 10 miles of the park is open year round. The closure in place for the winter is at the Colorado River Trailhead.

Today, Friday, October 25, Trail Ridge Road (U.S. Highway 34) inside Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) officially closed for the season to through travel.

With 11 miles of road located at elevations above 11,500 feet, few guard rails, and no shoulders, Trail Ridge Road is not designed to be an all-season road. Winter conditions of drifting snow, high winds and below-freezing temperatures occur above 10,000 feet.

Trail Ridge Road is currently closed at Rainbow Curve on the east side of RMNP and at the Colorado River Trailhead on the west side of the park. Closure points on the road may fluctuate this fall, however the road is closed to through travel for the season.

Interested in taking a scenic drive? There are several popular scenic driving destinations open this time of year, including Bear Lake Road, Endovalley Road, Trail Ridge Road on the west side of RMNP from Grand Lake Entrance to the Colorado River Trailhead and Trail Ridge Road on the east side of RMNP to Rainbow Curve.

Trail Ridge Road normally opens the last week in May, weather permitting. In 2024, Trail Ridge Road opened on Friday, May 31.

Old Fall River Road closed to vehicles for the season on October 8. Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road will remain open to bicycles, hikers, and people walking leashed pets through November 30. Leashed pets and bicycles are only allowed on the roads, not on side trails.

On December 1, both roads will transition to "winter trail status." On Sunday, December 1, 2024, bicycles and leashed pets will no longer permitted to travel beyond the closed gates. Pedestrians, snowshoers and skiers will be welcome to recreate during the winter season on both roads.

Hopefully Trailridge will open Memorial Day weekend! 🤞🏻

It's tradition that Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park aims to open by Memorial Day weekend, but did you know that it is completely dependent on weather conditions? The process of clearing the road is extensive due to heavy snowfall and lingering ice. Crews from Rocky Mountain National Park work diligently to ensure the road is safe for travel, but unpredictable weather can complicate and prolong these efforts.

We will announce once the road is open to the summit and beyond, but here is what you can expect:

Snow: Significant snowpack can still be present even after the road opens.
Cold Temperatures: Be prepared for chilly conditions, even in late spring.

It's important to remember that Trail Ridge Road can close at any time, even after opening, due to sudden weather changes. For your safety, always check current road conditions before you go. Visit the Kawuneeche Visitor Center or call (970) 586-1222 for the latest information.

Thanks to Ginger Kendell Brainard for sharing this shot from her recent ride which shows just how much snow has to be cleared in order for the road to open.
*Trail Ridge Road is open to hikers & cyclists only at this time*

We still have limited availability if you’d like to visit Grand Lake, Colorado this summer! Moose Manor - Grand Lake, Colorado will accommodate 8 guests and we are pet friendly as well. The cabin is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath and it sits on an acre of the most peaceful moose infested property around!! We have two natural springs that flow out of the back yard right next to the firepit and the Colorado River can be heard year-round as well. We are surrounded by lakes with Granby, Shadow Mountain, and Grand Lake all within 5 minutes of the cabin. Rocky Mountain National Park is only 3 miles down the road too. We are the perfect central location to explore Grand County and RMNP. You will not find another Airbnb that offers all of the amenities that we do, including firewood for those evening campfires. The only thing you will need to bring is food and clothing, we have the rest covered for you!! We have around 300, 5⭐️ reviews between Airbnb and Vrbo with probably more than 50 friends that can attest to what we offer. I do anticipate the rest of the summer dates to fill in, so if you’re interested, please reach out sooner than later or click on either booking site for dates and rates. I can promise you, you won’t be disappointed! We always appreciate a share to help spread the word. Thanks for your continued support and we look forward to another great Summer of hosting in Grand Lake!
