The Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Because of its high elevation, the forest is often enveloped in mist, which isn't just fog but tiny droplets of water suspended in the air. This region supports an array of species that thrive in its misty, lush environment. Spot the iconic Resplendent Quetzal as well as other incredible bird species including Emerald Toucanet, Black Guan and Three-wattled Bellbird. Keep an eye out for howler monkeys, capuchins, sloths and, if you're lucky, elusive jaguars or ocelots! Perched at 3,800-5,200 feet, Monteverde's cool, misty air makes it a pleasant setting for your next birding vacation.

Ecuador’s Andes are a complex system of ridges and valleys, providing a great variety of habitats within a small geographic area. We crafted our Ecuador: Biodiversity Across the Andes tour to explore the very best of this region. Stay in two Jocotoco Foundation reserves, at Buenaventura, in the western foothills, and at Tapichalaca, adjacent to the magnificent Podocarpus NP in eastern Ecuador. Experience mixed flocks of the most colorful tanagers on the continent, peppered with manakins, flycatchers, fruiteaters, becards, and more. Perhaps (with luck) stumble upon a Spectacled Bear! Visit our website to learn more.

Enjoy this collection of photos from our 2024 departure by Jack Alvo and Brent Mann.
