Good information!! Already can’t wait for summer!!
From the Kenai River to Bristol Bay, Alaska is home to five different Pacific salmon species. Here’s a quick guide on where to find each type so you can plan your next fishing trip for that perfect catch!
👑 Chinook (king) salmon: Find record-breaking kings on the Kenai and Yukon Rivers. These big guys love deep, cold rivers, so look to Southcentral and Interior Alaska for prime spots.
🔴 Sockeye (red) salmon: Known for their vibrant color, sockeye thrive in Bristol Bay, the Kenai River and Copper River.
🥈 Coho (silver) salmon: Coho are found from Southeast to Southcentral Alaska, especially near Prince William Sound and Kodiak Island.
💗 Pink (humpy) salmon: These small and mighty salmon are abundant in Southeast Alaska and Prince William Sound. You can also find them along coastal rivers throughout the state.
🐾 Chum (dog) salmon: Look for chum in the Yukon River, Southeast Alaska, and Arctic regions. They’re hardy fish that can handle cooler waters.
No matter where you are in Alaska, there’s a salmon waiting for you! We might be biased, but the Kenai River is our favorite spot. 😊
