Oh another good airline news! Emirates is flying to Madagascar starting in September! I have been thinking of sorting a new Madagascar group and having better flights will make it much easier to get there!

AC is adding back the snacks on domestic flights along with beer & wine! I guess Porter is taking a bite into their business??

MONTREAL — Air Canada is giving the Economy experience an upgrade with complimentary premium snacks on all flights.

I was gifted this wonderful book by a friend this past weekend. She knows how much I love Egypt and specifically Amarna. I will enjoy this and think of Barry Kemp. I am so saddened to hear of his passing this week. He leaves a legacy of deep knowledge and love for Amarna and Egypt. My thoughts are with Miriam and the whole Amarna Team, may the Aten shine on all of you. CPBC: 82257

It has taken me a few days to post about our visit to Soweto. First I can not recommend enough a visit to this powerful place. So much history and positive energy in this place. We had a great tour and learned so much. The 1976 student protests that changed so many lives and the education system for the blacks. Our guide had been one of the organizers and was in solitary confinement for years - he said you would invite a fly in for company - then broke rocks on Robben Islabd for years. What he had to endure no one should have to. I am grateful for him sharing his story and will do my best to make sure it is never forgotten.

We had a very powerful visit to Soweto! Our amazing guide had been one of the organizers of the protests in 1976 for better education. He spent years in solitary confinement and breaking rocks on Robben Island. Listening to his truth and his story of living through 3 stone ages was gut wrenching, powerful, healing and most of of reminder not to forget the atrocities of the past. I am very grateful for the visit.

We completed our tour at Sanctuary Mandela. This is where President Nelson Mandela lived. The home fell into terrible disrepair and was restored by the Mandela Foundation and turned into a to a boutique hotel and restaurant. You can feel th history and hope in this sanctuary. Each room is named after Mandela in a different stage of his life and each room has art work to reflect the name.

This amazing community was created on 3 pillars Food security, transfer of skills and meaningful community engagement. There are 60 residents here, all kinds of artisans, food stalls, gardens etc. the craftsmanship is stunning and we only had a quick visit. I must come back here!
