Rebecca Cruse is the newest advisor on the Chronicle Travel team and brings her boundless energy and love for travel to clients from her home base in Houston, Texas. She’s a proud mom of two teenage boys, wife, and dog mom, with a serious passion for exploring the world—she’s already visited 25 countries and counting.

Rebecca specializes in dreamy beach getaways, luxurious cruises, and custom European trips, always adding her love for cultural immersion and authentic experiences to every itinerary she creates. She LOVES to design unforgettable vacations that connect her clients to the heart of their destinations - there's nothing cookie cutter about her itineraries!

A few people have asked us this question lately. When’s the ideal time to start planning my next vacation? ⏰

Planning about a year in advance is a good rule of thumb, give or take a few months depending on the type of trip. 🗓️

If you’re like 🤯 - we get it! Planning that far out isn’t always realistic. We’re still here to help if you’re considering a getaway with less notice. But if you’re able to look farther ahead, you’ll likely save some money and ensure your trip is exactly as you want.

Check out some more info on booking timelines:

✈️ International Trips - We typically book clients’ hotels and flights as packages. For these trips, we wait until flights open - usually around 9 months out. If you want to book your own flights (maybe you have airline points burning a hole in your pocket?), we can book a hotel, guided tour, etc. earlier.

🏰 Walt Disney World - Hotel and ticket packages are currently open through the end of 2025. If you’re considering a trip next year, we suggest booking it soon. We monitor clients’ reservations for discounts, so if one comes out later, we’ll see if we can apply it to your trip. Booking early might help you avoid one of Disney’s occasional price increases, and it gives you more selection when choosing your resort and room type. Considering a 2026 trip? Bookings will likely open in the first half of 2025.

🛳️ Most cruise lines have cruises available through part of 2026. Typically, prices are lowest when new cruise dates first open. Booking early also means you have more open staterooms to choose from!

Thinking about a last minute getaway? Sometimes you’ll find lower prices later on, but you’ll have to be really flexible about your room type or stateroom location and your travel dates. Plan on spending more on your flights.

Is any trip to Australia complete without some time in Sydney? 🇦🇺 Here are a few things you might not know about this iconic city:

🛳 Much of Sydney can be explored by ferry.
🚌 The ferries aren't the only form of public transit. You can also use the buses, trains, metro rail, and light rail to get around!
🖼 There are quite a few free museums!
🏖 The Sydney area also offers great beaches! The second photo shows a beach in Manly, a suburb of Sydney.

If you've always wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef 🪸, you may want to add Cairns, Australia to your travel list!

We recommend spending a few days or nights near Cairns during an Australia trip to enjoy some of these nearby destinations:
🌿 Daintree - Australia's oldest rainforest
🚂 Kuranda - a gorgeous rainforest village that can be reach by scenic train or gondola. You might see a koala here, too!
🐠 And of course, the Great Barrier Reef. You can even do an overnight boat tour!

HEY CRUISE FANS. (Also, those of you who just don't know you are cruise fans yet, this is for you, too.) We see you, we know you, and we are you!

You might think that booking and planning a cruise is a breeze, but here are a few reasons you might want to consider using a travel planner to book your next one:

⭐️ We get great prices (probably better than you can get direct): We have relationships that allow us to get group pricing on some cruises, ships and staterooms, and often can throw in a little something something extra for you to use during your cruise!

⭐️ We know the ships, cruise lines and itineraries: Cruises are NOT all created equal. We probably all know someone who went on a cruise and hated it - but did they go on the $300 cruise in the worst stateroom on a terrible ship? Maybe! There is a massive difference between ships (even on the same cruise line), staterooms (there is everything from cheap and basic insides to luxury all-suites and beyond) and itineraries (yes, you can visit the Bahamas, but what about Budapest or Santorni instead?).

In most cases you will need to plan how to GET to the ship, when to get there, and getting home - and you might want to add a few days before or after (Miami Beach day anyone?). There’s a lot we love about Disney Cruise line, but here are a few of our favorite things: 🍽️ Rotational Dining: Each ship has 3 great restaurants, each with a different menu and theme. Some even include entertainment featuring your favorite Disney characters! Guests rotate between the different dining rooms to ensure you get to experience all of them during your cruise. Plus, your servers rotate with you and learn your preferences to offer great service. 🎨🎮 The kids clubs offer immersive theming and great activities with specially-trained youth counselors. And if you don’t have kids, we still recommend checking out these great spaces during the open house hours! 🏝️Disney’s private Castaway Cay is a favorite port for many cruisers.
