35+ Things to do in (or near) Fairmont while staying at Sunset Cottage at Hall Lake (I am sure there are other good places to eat in town, but these have been family tried and approved)
1. Sit on the deck
2. Enjoy the sunset
3. Cook on the grill
4. Swim by the dock (hint, wear tennis shoes or water shoes while swimming, there could be glass, metal, even fishing hooks on the bottom of the lake).
5. Fish (better get a Minnesota fishing license and bait , both can be gotten at the bait shop just a mile north on Albion Ave, or at Walmart on the north side of town).
6. Go to the park. The closest one is Gomsrud, go North about a mile and turn left. They have a great playground, and 2 beaches!
7. Explore other parks in town.
8. Go to the Aquatic center (swimming pool, 1400 S Prairie Ave). They have miniature golf, too!
9. Visit Heritage Acres, 507 Lake Ave, Fairmont, MN, This is a Agricultural Interpretive Center. Community events and festivals are celebrated throughout the year. Tours by appointment are conducted through yesteryear’s Pioneer Village.
10. Visit the Fairmont Opera House, 45 Downtown Plaza, This magnificent building was erected in 1901. For over 70 years it was used for the benefit and entertainment of the community until its doors were locked and it was destined to be demolished. Fortunately, in the early 1980’s, it was taken over by several concerned citizens and once again is standing tall and proud as the “Jewel of the Prairie.”
11. Visit Martin County Historical Society, 304 E Blue Earth Ave, The Martin County Historical Society’s Pioneer Museum is open all year, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as, Saturday and Sunday by appointment or for special tours. There is no charge for admission, but donations are accepted.
The Pioneer Museum features many artifacts from Martin County’s history including a pioneer home display from the turn of the 20th century, a school room from the past, a military room, and many other artifacts representative of local history on the three floors of what was once a school.
Research can be conducted in a state of the art research library completed in 2003. Some of the research materials available include microfilmed county newspapers and bound newspapers dating back to the 1870’s, obituary records, cemetery records, family histories, high school yearbooks, phone directories, and city directories.
12. Visit Red Rock Center for the Arts, 222 E Blue Earth Ave, Designed by Minnesota architect Harry W. Jones for the First Church of Christ Scientist in 1898. It was constructed of Sioux red quartzite. It has 19 beautiful stained glass windows. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
13. Visit the bait shop, just a few blocks North on Albion Ave.
14. Rent a pontoon or jet skis from Hall Lake Cabins or a LilyPad! You can tie the LilyPad right to our dock! Our kids love to play on it and jump off of it. They also have lake tours available. (507) 235-9785.

16. Enjoy a meal at Ambiance, across the street. You can walk there!
17. Eat at the Channel Inn (330 W Lair Rd, near Gomsrud park). Their burgers were once voted the best in Minnesota!! If you have a boat, you can boat over there! If the weather is nice, sit on their patio while you eat. You can wave at the boats that go through the channel that connects the lakes. Find them on FB, they often have live music on the weekends.

20. Go to the Dairy Freeze, 1502 Albion Ave
21. Eat at El Agave Mexican Restaurant, 62 Downtown Plaza,

24. Eat at The Ranch Restaurant, 330 N State St. Not only good food, but they have a really cool exhibit there, a city block of old downtown buildings about 2 foot high. Truly cool to see.
25. Eat at Marina Lodge Lakeside Pub & Restaurant, 501 Lake Ave, another lakeside restaurant! They also often have live entertainment on weekends.
26. Take a walk on the bike path, it’s right across the street!
27. Browse through the boutique shops in Downtown Fairmont
28. Explore the lakes of Martin County. Whether you prefer boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, skiing, or tubing, Fairmont is the place to be. With a chain of five lakes inside city limits featuring 14 miles of shoreline and 49 lakes throughout Martin County, your options never run dry.

30. Visit the Martin County Veteran's Memorial Park. 507 Winnebago Ave.
31. Visit the Jolly Green Giant about 25 miles east, in Blue Earth.
32. Headed south? Visit the famous Grotto in West Bend, Iowa. About 60 miles.
33. Drive by the beautiful wedding cake house in Fairmont. It is not open to the public but is worth driving by.(Wohlheter Mansion, Woodland Ave).
