Well, your joint or mine. U-Joint stuff.

A universal joint (universal coupling, U-Joint, Cardan joint, Spicer or Hardy-Spicer joint, or Hooke's joint) is a joint or coupling connecting rigid rods whose axes (axis') are inclined to each other and is commonly used in shafts that transmit rotary motion.

The ancient Greeks invented the concept around 300 BC, and then in the 16th century Italian physicist Geronimo Cardano invented the modern form in order to hold a compass horizontal on ships. Some may refer to as a Gimble! The name Cardan joint stuck, and the joint was so called when Robert Hooke (Hooke's Law fame) improved the fundamental design in the 17th century. Although Hooke tried to change the name to "Hooke's Joint" it didn't take. However, it was not called a 'universal joint' until Henry Ford started using the pieces in automobiles and many other applications. In many uses now, especially in Europe, the pieces are still called Cardan Joints.

Now, the Rzeppa Joint, invented by Alfred H. Rzeppa in 1926 consists of a spherical inner shell with 6 grooves in it and a similar enveloping outer shell. Each groove guides one ball. The input shaft fits in the center of a large (usually) steel 'star-shaped gear' that nests inside the circular cage. This cage and gear fit into a grooved cup that has splined and threaded shaft attached to it. Some call it a Birfield - 'for another discussion - (another automotive inventor) or the generic name: CV joint - due to its ability to maintain a more 'constant velocity' (over the common Cardan Joint) at high rotational speeds.

The "Double Cardan Joint" consists of 2 universal joints mounted 'back to back' with a center yoke; the center yoke replaces an intermediate shaft (for small space and/or high angle applications). A 3rd universal joint will be at the distal end of the drive/prop shaft. Provided that the angle between the input shaft and center yoke is equal to the angle between the center yoke and the output shaft, the second Cardan Joint will cancel the velocity errors introduced by the first Cardan Joint and the aligned Double Cardan Joint will rotate with more consistency or a more constant velocity than a 2 joint unit in other applications. This is in relationship to driveline/propshaft/driveshaft and steering axle/half-shaft applications. What fun!!!

Henry and I also had some weekend time with our dear friend Helene in her Grenadier. 2” lift and 34” tires. We wheeled hard and easy, dry and rain! Very, very impressed with this truck. Although Helene drives very well, the Ineos really is capable and comfortable. Some Moab routes with a dive into Gold Bar Rim, 2 Tortoise Rock loop and then a drive over the La Sals east to the Tabguache along the Uncompahgre Divide. Yeah buddy!!

Your world begins here folks. Dry goods,, refrigerated, auto, liquid, gas!!! All parked here for the night of rest.

At least over 250 road trucks here. Parked for the night sleep. Some are “off” others running for climate control. But, the temps are nice, so my end of the row is quiet and shut down. Saving fuel costs. Others, idling along. Yes, a reality of the trucking industry. You gatz ta pay for the sleep zone.

Henry says there are a lot of parking spots here Dad! Yes my boy, over 170 truck spots. That is a lot of freight Dad?! Yes, my Poodle, some may have your dog food on truck!! Well then, cool!! Let ‘em roll!!

Yes indeed - if you bought it - a truck brought it!! Very intense transportation logistics plan happening.
