Want your business to be the top-listed Travel Agency?
This business started in 1902 as a park. Kids from many miles around would walk to this facility to swim and mingle with friends. Originally, the swimming was in the creek, where it had been dammed for this purpose. In 1927 the first swimming pool was added to the park. In 1940 a couple bought the park and renovated it to a nautical theme. She was from the ocean and wasn’t real excited living in the mountains. She increased the pool to a mammoth size (bigger than Olympic) and considered this the ocean. She built a kitchen for serving food and put a large lighthouse on top of this. She built her quarters to look like a boathouse going toward the lighthouse. When you came across the old 1842 bridge on Camp Road and saw all of this nautical scene, it appeared that you were at the ocean.
The park evolved into a campground in the 1960’s and was owned by many people over the years. It fell into disarray until Judy F Finch, of Virginia, gave up her engineering career and took on the ownership of this business. She struggled for many years with the campground, while putting a lot of money and tender loving care into the property. Over the past twenty-two years she managed to bring it back to life and it is now a four-star facility. She has owned the business longer than any other owners. She put in a new recreation hall, a new laundromat, several new rental units and renovated the existing cabins. She turned the restaurant into a country store and the kitchen into her office. She took the old miniature golf course out and made a beautiful park. She completely redid and relocated the playground and altered the swimming pool. She keeps the park immaculately clean.
This Good Sam campground is the first campground near the interstate, (just one mile off of Interstate 81, at exit 104) coming down from Canada that can accommodate the big rigs. Many of the pull-thru sites are 80 feet long and there are an ample amount of these sites. WiFi is offered free in the camp and the sites have water, electric and sewer. Some have tv. Nightly, weekly and monthly rates are offered, along with seasonal sites. Come and check out this beautiful campground.
