This is a privately operated tourism effort to spread the word about an historic and beautiful county founded in 1634. It is among the eight original counties ever created in the United States that year (the others were York, Henrico, Accomack, Elizabeth City, Warwick, James City and Charles City Counties.) Isle of Wight is home to the Ham Capital of the World, the town of Smithfield, where Smithf
ield Foods operates. Many of the clothes we wear likely originate here as well, as there are many cotton fields, and the county is home to several farms dedicated to Tyson Foods and its chicken. Green Mountain coffee also has operations here, in the town of Windsor. Other communities in the county: Carrollton, Pons, Rushmere, Isle of Wight Courthouse, Zuni, Carrsville. Many Bed and Breakfasts are found here, along with quiet living, a low crime rate, low unemployment, low taxes and easy access to the rest of the Hampton Roads region of 1.7 million people.
